Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
@JenniferOlinger helped solve the below issue for 3 other scouts last week. We now have the same issue for two more scouts:
14669417
13410111
The parents of these new Scouts (bridged over from AoL) created their youth accounts in my.Scouting with their own email addresses (which now appear in Scoutbook Plus) and they can successfully log into Scoutbook on their own (I watched them do this). However, they are not appearing in the list of Youth Members that can receive emails from our Troop and they are not receiving Troop emails. We already had them check and they have Opted In to receiving email.
This seems like an ongoing issue/glitch in Scoutbook? We have more new scouts who will need to go through the same process soon. Would be great to get a permanent solution.
@JamieWaskey - I do not think this is a scoutbook glitch, but more of a user error issue. It would be helpful if Jen would outline what she did to correct the issue on you prior post.
If user error, would be great to know what we are doing wrong/what we can do to avoid this in the future.
We followed this:
After their parents create their accounts, scouts can access Scout Book, but they don’t appear in the list of youth that can be emailed from within Scout Book and they are not getting Troop emails (with the exception of the scouts @JenniferOlinger fixed).
Yes that’s correct, both logins on Friday as I was helping parents with this at our Troop meeting Friday. The previous Friday I helped 3 other scouts do the same thing and we faced the same issue with them, which Jennifer fixed for us. So it seems like this may be an ongoing problem, rather than a one-off. Let me know if there is anything we can do from our side to prevent this from happening again (I still have a few more scouts to get registered).
I was thinking about this again today - maybe scouts need to do their first login to Scoutbook 24 hours after their my.scouting youth account has been made? Rather than immediately after the youth account has been made. Could that possibly be the issue?
Nope, I have the same problem with another scout. His mother created his youth account with me at our Troop meeting yesterday. He waited 24 hours and then logged into Scoutbook today with the new credentials. He’s not showing in the list of Youth Members that appears in the “Send Message” section so is not receiving Troop emails.

So, it’s the same issue as the previous scouts. Appreciate if you can do whatever you have done for the others so that he starts receiving the troop emails.
@JamieWaskey that scout did not log into Scoutbook - that scout Logged into the Scouting APP - that is different - they have to log into scoutbook.scouting.org
Hi Donovan,
Yesterday the scout logged into Scoutbook. The mom recieved the attached message. But the scout is still not showing in the youth email list.
Hi Donovan, he’s there now, thank you for your help!
So what are we doing wrong? Please can you direct me so that we don’t bother you about this again? We had to ask help for all the new AoLs that bridged over (regarding this same issue). I’m not sure I understand your question “there was No Email in SB???” The mom added his email when she created the youth account for him and it was there when I checked Scoutbook Plus (before messaging the forum).
What I guess (and reported) is that the email did not flow in from making the Log in - it could have been added to the SB Profile - but the log in would have still had to happen.
SB+ MIGHT be reading email from AKELA (Registration database) and not the SB Database which was blank.
