Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
Yesterday afternoon I posted a 3 day, 2 night, event that involved camping, hiking and service hours for AAC Troop 463 and Den 5 of Pack 236. While the camping days/nights (3/2), hiking (3 mi) and service hours (1) show on the event report, they do not appear in the Activity report nor do they appear to have carried over into either units my.Scouting dashboards. Am I doing anything wrong on my end?
@CharlesOlson do they have users attached to the activities. If you are talking about the Metrics - you have to designate them as meeting the metrics after the event.
When you say “users” do you mean registered members? If so, yes, both youth and adults (I’m one of them). It’s a small number of youth from both the Troop and the Pack. I created separate activity entries for both the Troop and the den. The Scouts in the Troop show on the activity report for the Troop but the AOL’s do not show on the activity report for the Pack.
In the past, I have simply updated the event with the camping, hiking or service and they rolled over into the Metrics. Has something changed.
@CharlesOlson not sure why, but if talking about the metrics dashboard at the bottom of the unit dashboard in My.Scouting with camping days, hike, service hours, I’ve seen it take 24-48 hours for My.Scouting to reflect Scoutbook+ activities.
@CharlesOlson- I did a check for our troop and the camping weekend that I updated in the event yesterday when they got back is reflected in the unit dashboard camping in my.scouting. It all matches the activity log report.
A new quirk to this query: when I run the Activity Summary Report from the Troop 463 Dashboard, the two AOL who attended the event show up on the Troop report with credit for the camping hike and service. Their names also show on the Pack 236 Activity Summary Report but their camping, hiking and service is blank.
@CharlesOlson please keep in mind, what Donovan posted from Scoutbook plus, only updates the super activity for the outdoor activity metric in My.Scouting. All of the other information on the My.Scouting unit dashboard supposedly flows from the activity logs in Scoutbook+ it may be subject to a sync delay from original entry.
Thank you for weighing in. That part I understood (once I learned about the check blocks), although I cannot think of a reason a unit would want to not have a hiking, camping or service event not counted in the mt. Scouting matrix. Otherwise, a unit that struggles to have one outdoor or service event during the year looks just as good as a unit that camps every month. From what I read in the piece that Donovan posted, the developers didn’t ask SUAC before they fileded it either.
After going back and checking the Unit Metrics box, I let it sit for 24 hours. I checked the dashboard this morning and the camping, hiking and service are not still not being picked up.in the Pack 236 metrics. I ran the activity summary report to confirm and the event is not included in the report.
However, when I checked Troop 463’s dashboard and ran the activity summary report for the Troop, the two AOL Scouts from Pack 236 appear on the Troop’s report with the correct camping day/nights, hiking and service hours.
AOL Requirement 5 requires that AOL participate in a campout with their patrol or a Scouting America troop. Since this event was done with Troop 463, I set it up as a multi-unit event in the SB+ Calendar. In the calendar, each unit is reflected correctly and the AOL’s names (and their adults) only appear in the calendar entry for Den 5 of Pack 236, so it appears that when there is a multi-unit event involving a Pack and a Troop, the program is pulling everyone into the Troop’s matrices.
