Processe directly tied to and tangential to SB+

Hurray!!! I think I found a home for some questions regarding the Scout program processes.

First a little context on me.

I am the outgoing Unit Advancment Coordinator, Scoutbook Admin\Migration to SB\Change Management\Processes. We are a Troop with about 60-80 Scouts at a given year; many are hard chargers. We have a core group of dedicated leaders but recruiting volunteers is our weakness and efficiency and automation is key to suppying our boys with a great program. I would classify us as somewhat as a superuser of SB and run into baundries and limitations often…or I am trying to make cubes fit into spheres.

Knowing this may help to understand where my questions are comming from.

I am noticing that some Awards in SB+ (Scoutbook Plus) now have instructions stating an award needs to have an application subbmitted to a Unit’s Local Council. The Scouting Distinguished Conservation Award comes to mind.

“*This award cannot be approved through Scoutbook Plus. Please submit form to your Council Office. When approved, will become visible and all further editing will be disabled. To award, review your “To Award” found under “Advancements” on your unit roster.”

However, awards like The International Spirit Award and NOA do not have such instructions.

Does this mean that National, for certain awards; like the NOA, World Conservation Award, and International Spirit Award; is giving the Counsels more autonomy and the Units the potential ability to track evrything in SB+ without paperwork as a policy\procedure going forward?

Thank you for all you are doing for Scouting, my family benefits greatly from it.

John

P.S. I think SB is a great product and the Team has done a great job supporting us during the migrations.

Instructions on those awards are not new - they were in Legacy. SB follows the GTA for awards as they are designed in who can approve. Many awards do have an application - but the application is basically only for purchase, not verification or entry.
