Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
We’re looking to move our calendar into SB and are testing things out. I’ve created some test meetings but none of them have sent any invites. This is the case regardless of using RSVP or not.
When I set an RSVP and/or reminder, I will get those messages before the meeting. It just never sends out the initial invite.
Ahhh.. ok, I see now. By default, “Send Reminders” is disabled. So any new event won’t send anything unless you enable this AND say ASAP. Seems like a design issue to me. Reminders are not Invites. But the system seems to treat them as the same. If you need an RSVP to an event, and nothing is sent, how will you get the RSVP?
There are a some other oddities I’m finding in testing as well:
Create new event, all day, enable reminders and set it to today. it gives error message about the event start date being in the past and it cannot set it. It never says created but I got the email so I knew it went through. It just never said successful.
If i check Require Permission Slip, it’s not sending anything with the email.
When creating a repeating event, you cannot send out an ASAP reminder. In some cases, it’s not a “reminder” I want to send, but an invite so people can add it to their calendar. So without enabling this, no one gets any notice of the event
Many units put all of their events for a year on their calendar so they don’t want reminders going out when the event is placed on the calendar but at a later date, this is why the system doesn’t send an invite without first selecting ASAP reminder.
We will investigate.
We will investigate.
You can send the reminder (SB+ does not distinguish between a reminder and invite) for individual events. We will investigate not being able to send it for the first even when creating the recurring sequence.
We recommend people subscribe to the calendar ICS feed to have events automatically placed on their calendar.
I thought i saw that on another post, but when I go to the event, i don’t see anything. Is it an issue of being an admin and not being able to see so you almost need a non-admin person to verify?
@ChipGandy- no as an admin I see the permission slip button on every event where that is checked off. If you check that box after an event is created you have to click save. I will post a screenshot of it when I get home
@ChipGandy - no… you are not understanding. If you create an event with the check box for permission slips you are done. If you decide later that an event needs them then you edit the event to add the check box then save that change. In order to see the permission slip button you have to click on the event in the calendar
Fair, except that’s not the behavior I’m seeing. your screenshot matches what I’ve seen but only one 1 event.
If I create an event with a permission slip and save, it’s not there.
I clicked on save a second time, and this time it showed up. I had already gotten the reminder so the event was created. but not until I clicked save a second time did it show up.
For another existing even that was checked off, i saved it again and it still wasn’t there.
LOL ok, I think I figured it out. Since I’m just testing, I’m only including adults. The one time it worked, i had added my son to the invite list. So it caused me to think for a minute… why would an adult need a permission slip?
Sure enough, once I added a youth, then the permission slip option shows up.
