Scout Counselor Approved His Own Merit Badge Requirements

I am the Personal Fitness MBC of one of our Scouts. I noticed that he was able to have some of his requirements “Counselor Approved” by himself.

These approvals show on a few requirements that need discussion with an MBC. I can uncheck the boxes and remove the completions marked that haven’t been completed with me. But I’m curious to know how a Scout was able to give himself “Counselor” approval on Scoutbook.

Here’s another screenshot. I just blocked out the Scout’s name. It’s also leader approved by BSA Administrator. How does that happen?

Approved by “BSA Administrator” generally means that someone above the unit-level approved it, either directly or through some automated process. Not sure why that would have happened.

Scouts shouldn’t be able to Counselor Approve things themselves (obviously), and I wasn’t able to reproduce it when I fiddled with it for a few minutes.

Two requests:

  1. Please post the BSA ID (not names please!) of the scout in question The SUAC folks might be able to find more data.
  2. Please take a look in the scout’s connections (if you’re a Unit Key 3, Key 3 Delegate or Troop Admin for the unit) to see if anyone else is connected to the scout as a MBC who might have marked it Counselor Approved. I don’t think you can have more than one person connected to a scout for the same merit badge at the same time, but I couldn’t find a test case that I could use in my unit.

I’m a Key 3 delegate and the MBC connected to the Scout. Here’s the info for the Scout in question.

SB User ID: 200523
BSA Member ID: 137355856

Thanks for looking into it.
