Scouts in a Patrol Listed as in a Patrol *and* not in a Patrol

After I moved scouts from their old patrols into their new ones, I now have most of the scouts in my troop both in their new patrol and in the “Scouts not in a Patrol” list. Only one scout (the SPL) should not be assigned to a patrol. It appears this way in Report Builder and SB Classic. In SB+ roster, they appear correctly.

@JohnLeed_III this happens from messing with Legacy often. I would leave legacy alone - there is a story to clean it up but the simple answer for now is not to mess in legacy except for MBCs and Payment logs.

Understood. This was the first time I used SB+ to reorganize patrols. If it was only appearing in Legacy, I probably wouldn’t have bothered reporting it. But when I noticed it in report builder from SB+ it seemed something worth posting.

Well - that is just a deeper step into system structure. As far as function it all works.

Another thing that happens is patrols become Unapproved in Legacy. If Legacy and SB+ show the same patrols. Then if you organize in SB+ - even if you have to move a scout out of a patrol and back into the patrol - it should clean it up. It becomes worse deleting a patrol, that is when it becomes unapproved in Legacy, and still shows there and in reports.

I am having a similar issue with my patrols in Legacy that have been unapproved but still have scouts in them AND showing up as not in a patrol. In SB+ roster, they are all in the correct patrol. I’ve tried clearing it up by moving all of my eligible scouts to a “Clean” patrol and waiting but the unapproved patrols are still there.

Based on what I’m hearing here we just need to ignore it and just use SB+ for all of our roster and scout management now?

@JustinBoxwell yes Unapproved sub-units are currently pretty much stuck - they do not effect the scouts - just make things messy. You can go to LEgacy > each scout > Membership > and put an end date on the wrong patrol memberships - but it is not advised - make a mistake and the scout is out of Scoutbook and it is a mess.

SB+ was designed so a scout could be in more than 1 patrol at once for Guide and instructor situations - or even PLCs with scouts in patrols still.

Thank you, this clears some stuff up!

I tried moving one of the affected scouts out of a patrol in SB+ and received this error:

Perhaps because there are two memberships in legacy:

To your comment to Justin - yes, I’ve orphaned a scout before changing patrol memberships and had to wait for him to get resynched back into the troop again, so I’m reluctant to try adjusting in legacy myself.

@JohnLeed_III - you should be able to end date the unit level membership. But in the end it is best to not mess around in legacy scoutbook after that. All that is left there is a menu for MBC and the payment logs.
