SYT Refresher Training is missing from my.scouting

I took the new SYT in June 2025 and the system is now sending me reminders to “retake SYT.”

As a Commissioner I like to take these trainings early so that I can help adult leaders in our District Navigate new processes.

Currently only the initial 90 minute SYT training is showing in my.scouting/my training. Those who took this as soon as it we introduced are now coming up for annual renewal, yet the refresher SYT is not available yet.

When will it be listed in the training system?

There is no one here with that info - that is a talk to council issue - they can send in a National Membercare ticket for more info if needed

I heard it is in QA testing and will be available before the May expirations

Thanks. It would be nice if they added that to the notification emails!

Safeguarding Youth Refresher Course was released yesterday. It is 20-25 minutes of excerpts from the longer training followed by a quiz. The quiz questions are NOT covered in the refresher course presented material. The quiz questions appear to be random questions from the longer training.

And I have heard of a QR code you have to be fast or ready for

I suspect the questions come from the full course quiz to determine who really knows the material and who needs to go back through the entire course. I would have preferred a pre-test that if passed certifies you for another year, otherwise you retake the full course.

The questions seem to be randomly selected. I have heard of some questions that I did not receive when I took the refresher last night.

There is also a mention during the barriers to abuse section that digital tools will be discussed more later but they never are.

The refresher SYT can be found at https://training.scouting.org/courses/sco_3016

There are two sections that “will be discussed later” are are not.

In the S.A.F.E section it invites you to pause the video and scan the QR codes, there isn’t a pause button.

I was asked a question about the “Traffic Light System” that was not covered in this training. And there were several other questions that had not been part of the refresher training!

You can pause the video by clicking inside the player window. Part of the issue is this is not obvious but the bigger issue is the time the QR code is displayed is too short.

Based on previous posts, it might be beneficial to raise these issues with your council professional staff and/or council training chair, as they may be best positioned to provide that feedback to the developers of the training modules. In the past, the training developers have not taken direct feedback from the SUAC volunteers. So if that is still true, the council professionals are in the best spot to provide your feedback to national and push for corrections.

I have discussed with my Council Field Director and Council Commissioner and they are raising these issues with National.
