Trouble Entering Leadership Positions

Have had issues for both troops that I work with. Can enter leadership positions, but get an error message when we hit save.

First question is where you’re trying to enter the data: classic Scoutbook (scoutbook.scouting) or SB+ (advancements.scouting)?

Second question is related to permissions. There’s a new permissions structure that was put into place late last year, and a lot of units haven’t yet re-set permissions for their scouters under the new system.

A major focus of the migration to Scoutbook Plus is to have positions mirror the positions shown in My.Scouting to ensure positions were reflected accurately in both platforms. The main purpose it to honor the guidance of our charter organizations and the positions they approve. Therefore, Scoutbook Plus does not use Legacy Scoutbook positions. Registered positions are used to provide base permissions. Some additional permissions can be added by the unit, however, there are restrictions on what can be given. See the updated Scoutbook_Permissions.pdf and the Scoutbook Plus permissions video for more details.

If you’re working in SB+ and your permissions have h and reset, I would try clearing cache. One significant issue with SB+ is that it tends to cache a lot of things, some of which get outdated pretty quickly, and can interfere with effective function of the interface.

ETA: Oops. Forgot to copy the links.

I tried it in both Scoutbooks, and I do have the necessary permissions. I successfully updated the position for one of the scouts in question about 45 minutes after my post on the forum.

I still do not understand what caused the error.

If you post the Scouting America Member IDs for scouts you had issues with (no names please!), the SUAC volunteers may be able to assist with investigation.

ETA: It probably would be good to know which positions of responsibility you were trying to add to each scout. Some depend on subunit assignments.

Reports have indicated that modifying things in classic Scoutbook is causing issues. The SUAC volunteers have strongly recommended avoiding classic Scoutbook except when entering MB completions as a merit badge counselor (i.e. not as a unit volunteer marking things Leader Approved), or if your unit uses the payment logs. Everything else can be done in SB+ at this point.

@RebeccaHager1 - DO NOT USE Legacy Scoutbook for this. The only thing left in legacy are MBC tools and payment logs.

Last week, it took us a while to figure out how to enter new positions for one of my troops after elections. We did figure it out after entering several in the legacy version.

Thank you. I’ll get back to you if it remains unresolved. I need to ask.
