Unable to Edit Positions in Scoutbook (Legacy) and Add Someone as Troop Admin

This morning I lost my Troop Admin access as Committee Chair in Scoutbook (Legacy). I am not sure why. I had to have another Troop Admin add my access back. I tried to go into scoutbook (legacy) and add troop admin access to another adult leader, but when I go under roster, clean the name, and click edit profile it just kicks me back into scoutbook plus. Am I doing something wrong or is there no way to add troop admin or add positions in scoutbook (legacy) anymore?

@MelissaEddings - troop admin no longer exists and there is VERY little reason to be in legacy scoutbook.

I would start by verifying that your CC registered position is showing as current in my.scouting. CC should not need Troop Admin to be assigned at all. As Stephen noted, for almost all purposes troop stuff is now in SB+. Only the payment logs (if used) and (for MBCs) approval of MB requirements are still in classic SB.

I am definitely assigned as Committee Chair in my roster and on myscouting.org. This is not the first time I have lost access to edit things. I prefer the look of scoutbook (legacy) and I know most of the adult leaders in my troop do. I can’t stand using scoutbook plus. I find it extremely hard to navigate and only use it when I am forced to. I went and updated permissions in scoutbook plus to give other leaders more access, but that doesn’t help them use scoutbook legacy if I can’t update them there. Will be scoutbook legacy be going away completely eventually?

@MelissaEddings- you should not and nor should other leaders be using legacy scoutbook

That’s what has been indicated by national (via the SUAC volunteers). Essentially, when (enough of) the functions have been migrated to SB+, classic Scoutbook will be retired entirely. Even now, it is not being fully supported, and as noted almost all functions have moved to SB+. Whatever “enough” would mean is also not 100% clear (I’ve seen terms like “core functionality” used).

I’m not personally a fan of the SB+ interface either, but national seems to have forgotten to consult me on that. :^)

I liked how I could just pull up the entire roster on one page with everyone’s info listed and I could easily see it. Not to mention it shows how many registered adults and scouts I have on the same page automatically. It also displayed all the awards on one page for each scout.

Regardless, the decision has apparently been made to change the interface. The only way users might possibly impact the process at this stage would be to advocate for UX/UI changes going forward (i.e. changes to the look-and-feel of SB+), rather than advocating for a return to classic SB. However, I wouldn’t expect any changes that might be considered to be addressed until well after classic SB is retired. How long that might be is anyone’s guess since national doesn’t share timelines publicly.

@MelissaEddings - the move away from legacy is just that in programming terms. The code base for old scoutbook is no longer viable or supported.

The UX is set - this user view is different but it is drastically faster than all the data that was required for the old view.
