Unable to Advance Webelos Den to AOL in Scoutbook Plus

One yes two no. I will wait and see if they are gone tomorrow. Thank you!

I had this trouble too.
I think it may be related to new AOL Den icon in original scoutbook.

P.S. for what is is worth, I got these other errors with my Webelos to AOL dens, but just “refreshing” advanced the Dens in the original scoutbook tool.

@KirklandSweeney

@Stephen_Hornak Thanks? Are you assuming I don’t know how to take a screenshot from a computer? Just trying to understand the purpose of your post?

@KirklandSweeney - photos of computer screens are difficult to view. That is the purpose of the link. Additionally your photo includes personal information that is now posted for the general public to see.

@KirklandSweeney just be careful when posting images there is no personal info please

Hi @Stephen_Hornak, thanks for your response. Are you aware that your post to me appeared as an attack and seemed demeaning rather than helpful? If you were intending it to be helpful, I suggest you add some clarification when making your original post.
Secondly, this personal information is mine and my wife’s and I am ok with it being seen, but thanks for your concern. I was careful to make sure no one else’s info in our pack was shared and was aware my info was in the photo and was aware others in this thread had scrubbed personal data but was ok leaving it as is.
Additionally, if you must know, the reason I posted a photo of the screen is because I already had it available, and that error message goes away after a while. When I first discovered this issue, I was texting my district commissioner about it and therefore took a picture with my phone for ease of texting. The district commissioner sent me the link through text and suggested I come here to post the issue, so since I was then using my phone to post and had the image available, reused it to hopefully help others.
It may be just me, but I think it is very crazy that my first experience with a forum of scouters that is meant to help people has gone this way and I am disappointed.

@DonovanMcNeil thank you for your concern. As clarified above, this is my and my wife’s personal information, and I was careful to not share an image that had other Pack member’s info. I will make it a point to not share even my own personal information in the future due to this welcome reception. If you feel it needs to be taken down, please feel free to remove.

Part of the reason folks are concerned about the PII (yours and anyone else’s) is that it’s not only visible to the folks who are logged in (nominally scouts, scouters and parents/guardians), but to anyone and everyone on the 'net who drops by (or webcrawls) the site.

Often times, we’ve seen the same issues (e.g. photos of screens instead of screenshots) so many times that the responses tend to become rather short, and can come across as pretty abrupt. Thanks for reminder to watch out for that.

Thanks for the understanding response, Charley. I will remove my photo and repost accordingly.

I got lots of errors too, when advancing Webelos to AOL. After searching forums I refreshed and the new AOL den was correct. I also have Den Chiefs and think that the errors were due to the den chief ids, but the rest of it worked.

I advanced the remaining dens. When I tried to change our empty Webelos 2 (aka AOL) den to Lion (we reuse the den numbers after crossover, so thought I would just change the den from Webelos to Lion), there was a den chief there I removed since i knew the system does not like den chiefs, still got an error message. I refreshed and everything - all previous dens reverted back to the old dens. eek! I refreshed again and it was back to the new changes. Strange. I decided to delete the AOL den and make a new Lion den. All good now. But some strange results along the way.

Good info. Thanks, @KristaHolmes

@KirklandSweeney - my apologies for the demeaning nature of my post. As has been noted the personal information plus the fact that screen photos are most often unreadable lead to my post. Seeing folks do this over and over again can and does lead to rather terse responses.

But normally i am doing my best to help those would need assistance, and sometimes my bedside manor is not the best. I am sorry my post came off that way.

I would defintely delete an empty den and create a new one rather than reading an empty one. Since historical membership are tied to the dens, it could look weird to have last year’s AOL leader show up as having been the Lion leader last year.

I noticed the same things with my dens yesterday: lots of errors advancing them. Then, logged off/closed browser, relogged on, and it had actually worked. IT is aware of a cache issue that prevents changes like this from being seen immediately.

Appreciate the response, Stephen. It is hard to interpret tone and intent on forums these days, especially when you are new and don’t know all the background and other personalities and factors in work. Sorry for adding to the pile of previous frustrations.

I was having a very similar issue yesterday. I was able to get through them. What ended up happening was something with timing and the various involved systems. If I rolled a den forward I basically just had to slow down and give the system time to do it’s thing. It did help if I literally took a minute, and then hit refresh. I also noticed that dens with den chiefs threw weird error messages for a moment but then after a few minutes rolled up to the next rank where-as dens without den chiefs did not.

One SB+ limitation (which is in a backstory to fix for AOL) - ALL Dens have to start with a # - so if you have a Webelos Den with Patrol name like “Beavers” it will fail - and needs to be renamed to “3-Beavers” or something.

Went to advance my dens as we are starting our summer program and it’s gone from Scoutbook and doesn’t appear in Scoutbook plus. You seem to be able to change the den level via pulldown but when you try to make any changes the site gets hysterical and starts scrolling error after error.
