Our troop recently attended a Scouting Heritage merit badge event, and when we entered it into each scout’s advancements, we added it as American Heritage by mistake. We were able to remove all except for two, in which we get the following error.
“This merit badge is being counted toward the Life Scout rank.
You must first remove the date completed on the Life rank, then uncheck BOR requirement.”

IS there a way to have American Heritage MB removed from each of their accounts?
@BrianPeterka on both scouts you should be able to just clear out the date - or click remove Merit Badge - that error should not come into play
When I click remove that error is presented in a pop up. Both scouts aren’t working towards life rank yet, still have prior ranks to obtain. I attempted to do what the error described but it doesn’t apply to either scout.
@BrianPeterka can you just erase the date of the MB?
When removing the date and clicking save or choosing the remove merit badge, the same error pop up shows.

@BrianPeterka yeah that is a good one - I got a video to send to Devs - for now ignore it and hopefully soon the bug will be found - I do bet Council could erase if needed in their Registrar Tools
@BrianPeterka you might also try going to advancements.scouting.org (SB+) and seeing if you can clear the date there
Thank you for taking a look! I tried from SB+ as well, but I don’t see a way to edit (it seems to be read-only). Enjoy your weekend; I will check with our local registrar next time I stop by the council office.

The error you are getting is saying the AH MB was used to complete Life. You need to clear the Life completion date then you can remove the MB.
@BrianPeterka I can do a screenshare and look at SB+ with you - I think there is a way - I am just used to test server so would need to see the Live version to tell you.

@BrianPeterka - OK looking for Data in your memory - both of these Scouts had BOR for Star and Life entered in their record by you for date of 11/28/23 - it was marked on 2/23/25. Trying our best to replicate this. Do you have any memory of your actions and how you might have done this?
We never entered and dates for BOR for either scout as they are not near the ranks of star or life. One is a tenderfoot the other working towards first class. We had entered the incorrect merit badge American Heritage when they actually completed Scouting Heritage. So I was trying to remove American heritage and it prompts with that message when trying to remove the badge or the date.
@BrianPeterka well that is what I am telling - You did enter BOR for Star and Life (they are cleared now so all should work on MBs.). So some action you took when logged in on 2/23/25 did it - we are just trying everything to duplicate it and patch the hole.
What is interesting is there were no dates showing for either scout in the BOR when logged into my account. I checked that multiple times because the error referenced that.
