Unit Settings hang/never appear

I am a Cubmaster who is trying to access the unit settings in Scoutbook Plus. One part of the unit settings are blank and never fill, and another part is a perennially spinning loader. My other affiliations (Troop, District) also have blank settings, but no spinning loader. On Chrome AND Opera. Whazzup?

Can you try using incognito mode?

Same in incognito mode, in both browsers. Expected some settings, got none. Expected Stripe setup, got placeholder.

GET https://api.scouting.org/organizations/v2/payment/.../stripe/profile fails with a 404.

Unit Timezone and Unit Activities succeed.

Troop too (I don’t have permissions that include Stripe):

Perhaps the only thing worse than encountering a bug that blocks needed functionality, is having no mechanism to diagnose and remedy the situation.

We deserve better - as volunteers to have to beg for assistance, from volunteers who can’t render assistance, for software that is paid for, without accountability or oversight.

What should I do to try to get access to the settings so I can set the unit fee and maybe even set up Stripe for our pack?

@JamesReifsnyder-Smit

Since you are Cubmaster you do not need the functional roles of Key 3 Delegate or Unit Advancement Chair. I suggest going to Permissions Manager and ending these roles then trying to access the Strip setup the next morning.

You do not have permission for the Troop because you are not Key 3 or Key 3 Delegate.

@JamesReifsnyder-Smit - as Committee Chair that set up both units for stripe I will give you some things to consider.

  1. When you enter something in the payment log as an amount due from scouts/scouter say $150 but then enter a credit from the unit the scout/scouter is ONLY able to pay the 150. There is NO variable payment.
  2. There is no setting of any fees in stripe nor is there any way of changing much in the stripe express account.
  3. You can enter manual payments but that payment due the unit will always exist with the option to pay via stripe.

Ed and Stephen have some good things to try. To parallel path a potential resolution is to have a council employee enter a member care ticket. These aren’t available to volunteers, but they can yes results. Yes, this is a pain sometimes even finding someone that can/will enter it for you. But that is the route Natilnal has provided. Again, not great, but a potential route to resolution.

@JamesReifsnyder-Smit

The developers have found a potential issue with the pack.

Watch Scoutbook Plus Change Log - Scouting Forums for an announcement of a fix.

Thanks, Matt. It sounds like Ed’s suggestion to remove some redundant permissions might be helpful, and I’ll try that.

As for working with the Council, I’ve tried that for several issues, and I’m embarrassed for everybody who thought that would be a good idea. I explain the problem to a Scouter who tries their best to describe it in a ticket, that goes to somebody who does their best to give a workaround, that comes back to the Council and then gets back to me, who has to explain that I’ve tried that workaround and it doesn’t work because _____ and the process repeats. It takes about a week to get through each cycle, and I have NEVER had success at resolving the root problem. Like changing the pins - BeaScout does not correctly find units by zip code, and does not rank or map them correctly

This is why people make browser extensions, hack the API, and bolt on workarounds - all things that duplicate toil and redirect the energy and skills of this wonderful community. I guess as long as National can use volunteers as shields, we will continue to be fodder.

Thank you for the suggestion, Ed, I’ll try this one today.

@JamesReifsnyder-Smit

What I have found works better is sending an email to Council with the exact text I want in the ticket. This way there is no translation error.

As I said in an earlier post, the developers have found an issue with your unit. A ticket has been opened to investigate.

It won’t hurt to remove the redundant functional roles as they could cause other issues.

You are right, Ed, removing redundant permissions did not resolve this issue.

What is the ticket # for the investigation/fix?

You might need to wait 24 hours after making changes to permissions. As Ed said, having redundant permissions can cause other issues, and it doesn’t hurt to remove them.

@JamesReifsnyder-Smit - can you try the stripe settings again.
