Upside Down USA Flag

Has anyone addressed senior Scouts wearing the USA flag upside down on their Class A uniform? Isn’t there a uniform rule to wear it correctly (I am unable to find it)?

Policy questions like this should really be addressed to the local council staff or commissioners. The purpose of these boards is the technical software, rather than general scouting discussions.

Saddening there isn’t an organizational policy stating an upside down USA flag is unacceptable.

Have you read the Guide to Awards and Insignia. This is the official uniform policy.

Also, Scouting America does not have a Class A or Class B uniform. The proper terms are Field Uniform and Activity Uniform respectively.

Support for property wearing the USA/ American flag could be clearly stated, the current language is weak.

Section 1. GUIDELINES FOR CUSTOM PATCHES AND EMBLEMS. “There should not be any direct political reference made on patches.”

Can we infer the above quote supports not wearing the USA flag upside down? Or, will the word “on” enable Scouting America to allow the upside down USA flag?

One time I had a scout receive the flag sewn upside down from the manufacture. Use it as a talking point, sign of distress when flown upside down, because they might not have realized it (the benefit of doubt). Also mention the US Flag code which supports Scouting America’s uniform guide and handling of the US flag. Anything more than that talk to Unit Commissioners, Council staff, and other knowledgeable individuals following the above guidelines.

That claim is a poor “cover” attempt for disrespect to our nation.

Displaying the USA flag upside is hardly a sign of distress in our current culture (yes it used to be 100+ years ago in time of war and on the Wild West frontier).

That claim is also a political statement and not allowed on Scouting America uniforms.

    poorly on the values of Scouting America or that it would deem offensive to Scouting America and/or its members.
