Why is opt-out greyed out on the roster for me?

I am the Committee Chair and COR Delegate for Natick Troop 7. I wanted to select “Opt-out” for some scouts who are not returning to the troop in the hopes that it would stop the renewal emails (the parents are being driven nuts by them). I used to be able to select opt-out, but it is greyed out for everyone on the roster right now. Can anyone please advise?

(I’m not even sure that this will stop the renewal emails, so if folks have other suggestions about that, please let me know)

Since this is a my.scouting.org issue, you need to report it through your Council staff. The my.scouting.org team only accepts bug reports from Councils, not volunteers.

Have you tried to change the opt-out via Scoutbook Plus? This may work better for you.

Yes, I figured out that it works in scoutbook plus. And it used to work in my scouting. But no longer.

@StephanieGellar- has the unit renewal been processed ? if so then I think the opt-out gets turned off as i notice mine is not available

In My.Scouting if their registration has already expired, but they are still in the 60-day lapse period, the opt out icon is grayed out. (ie: on 2/9/2026 and they have 12/31/2025 expiration date)

That’s what I am wondering….My unit renewal has gone through too. Does opt-out only work during the renewal window?

That is that case - they expired on 12/31/2025 and purposefully chose not to renew, but they keep getting renewal notices.
