Activity Log-ASM Unable to Select Participants from Unit Roster

SB+ has a cache issue with roles. After adding an admin role in SB, the new admin needs to do a hard refresh (SHIFT+REFRESH) in SB+

An ASM should not be given Admin permissions just to be able to properly manage activity logs. They don’t need to have access to other things that an admin has access to.

If the SM wants to delegate activity logs, they should be able to delegate that and nothing else.

Service hours approved by the SM is for rank requirements Tenderfoot for Life. That means the SM is responsible for approving service hours used on those rank requirements. MBCs approve service hours for merit badges, not scoutmasters.

That said, this has nothing to do with general tracking of service hours. The Guide to Advancement does not cover the tracking of general service hours, because general tracking is not an advancement issue. Service hours that aren’t used for rank or merit can also be tracked and don’t require SM approval or MBC approval. And the Activity log isn’t being used to automatically complete service hour rank requirements or merit badges.

And while that’s a discussion of service hours, how does that apply to Camping nights, general activities or hiking miles?

I know there have been a number of past requests for more granular permissions. I’ve made several of them myself. :^)

However, it’s not clear when or if the BSA might take action on those requests. I do know that SUAC has passed them along in the past.

Keep in mind that the folks here are all volunteers (including SUAC), and don’t have the ability to direct change. If you want to initiate another pathway to pushing this, council professional staff theoretically have their own way to push change requests out to the development team (via their MemberCare connections, I believe). Unfortunately, there is no longer a direct route for volunteers to reach out to the technical development group, so the most we can do is request changes here (via SUAC) and/or agitate with our respective council professionals to have them advocate for the changes on our behalf via their internal contacts with BSA.

@Stephen_Hornak - To my knowledge, I am presently only granted ASM privileges. I understand what is being shared (re: roles and corresponding privileges), and that the CURRENT (as of ~2024/07/13S) ASM privileges restrict my access to creating/editing activity logs. HOWEVER, from ~2022/01 to ~2024/07 I was able to perform these tasks with only the same ASM privileges. As I have shared previously, the routinely “moving targets” are a source of frustration for a number of users.
