Add non leader parents to mark of achievements in scoutbook

How do I add non leader parents to add or mark off achievements for other scouts? For lions and tigers we dont really have a set leader that has stepped up. Parents instead rotate weeks that they lead. I was able to have parents enter other scouts achievements in legacy scoutbook but that has now been cleaned. Do I go back and add more permisions there or is there a way to do it in SB+. When parents rotate leading the group it would be helpful for them to be able to add what they worked on that week. Now I have to keep track of it as the CM.

@CubmasterCamping - you can not as they must be registered adults. There is no exception to this.

@CubmasterCamping

It is Scouting America policy that only registered leaders have access to update advancement for Scouts that are not their children. Since you are required to have 2 registered leaders over the age of 21 at all meetings and activities, you could have either of those leaders enter the advancement completed during the meeting.

If you do not have 2 registered leaders over the age of 21 present, you are required to cancel the meeting or activity.

The two deep leadership is being fulfilled at all meetings. All dens meet at the same location at the same time. However new groups such as lions and tigers dont have thier own leader yet. Each scout has thier parent with them as required.

Parents can enter thier own scouts progress but it can only be approved by registered leaders. Why can’t parents enter progress for other scouts? I have not seen any policy that forbids this. When trying to recruit new leaders i try to have parents lead for a bit to show them how easy it is. Most people are not going to jump in to the position without first trying it.

Additionally the original scoutbook had connection manager which had a whole module dedicated to allowing parents to see and modify progress of scouts that were not thier own child regardless of leadership status. Again approval needed to come from a registered adult but it was easier to keep track of progress when you could delegate this to people that want to help but aren’t quite ready to put on the uniform.

@CubmasterCamping- then why cant the parents enter items for their respective children ?

They can. But if you are the one going over the activity for the week it is easier to just mark off what you taught for the week for all who were present. Also when planning what to go over, you can only see your child and can’t see what items other children in the den may be missing.

@CubmasterCamping using report builder might really help - you can make the report you need to show for planning all on one screen

@CubmasterCamping,

Based on this, it sounds like the current behavior of the interface (in terms of not having a method for non-scouter parents to enter advancement for scouts other than their own) is what was specified by national. If you want to advocate for a change, the only route is via your council professionals, who can advocate for the change with national. None of the SUAC volunteers or their contacts with the SB+ developers have the ability to make or advocate for a policy change. That has to go to national via the council professionals.

@CubmasterCamping

Using quick entry it should not take a registered leader more than 5 minutes to enter the day’s completions for both the Lion and Tiger dens.

Scouting America is tightening security in Scoutbook to further enhance youth protection. I do not envision them giving access to Scouts to non-regsitered adults. If you feel strongly enough about this, your recourse is to get Council to open a member care ticket describing the change you would like to see and justification for making it.
