I am trying to add a parent (non-member) to scoutbook as a connection to existing cub scout (Member ID 141941563. Complete the search for existing user - not found. Add new adult account, selected gender, first, last, email… CANNOT SELECT A RELATIONSHIP. Its completely greyed out. Continue with full control permission. Added message to parent. I selected the Invite button - and get an error that I must select all relationships which apply to this connection. However I cannot. What am I doing incorrectly?
@BrandyMoorhead- you should be adding parents in advancements.scouting.org not legacy scoutbook
Thanks. I missed this change. Is there a way to view instructions for this or a hiint on how to add connections who are not members?
Thanks - I truly appreciate it. Certainly not easier.
@BrandyMoorhead What is the parent’s member ID number?
apparently that is the problem. They are not a member, so they have to create a membership ID first. Not sure it used to be this way - the system would add them behind the sceens for the purpose of being connected to their cubscout.
@BrandyMoorhead Please ask them to create an account at my.Scouting.org. This will create a member ID number for the parent.
It’s (sometimes) a messy process. If the adult is the parent/guardian who originally filled out the form to register the scout (using the example of a paper form), then they already have a Scouting American Member ID, but finding it might be challenging if all of the PII on that form doesn’t match what gets entered trying to find them.
For the “other” parent (i.e. the one who didn’t fill out the form with their information), they need to create a my.scouting account, which then creates the Member ID to go with it (and now they can be added).
In classic Scoutbook, there was no tie between the official membership database and the parent/guardian connections, so units could add connections. Now, Scouting America wants a tighter rein on that connection, so they’re requiring everyone who has a connection to have a Member ID (i.e. my.scouting account).
