Adult "Scout" unable to send emails

We have a scout who recently turned 18 but has an approved 1 year extension. She had been able to send emails to scouts when she was 17 but now that she is an ‘adult’ she is no longer able to send messages to scouts. I know I can change permissions for every scout and connect her as an “Adult Leader” but she’s not a Leader. She’s still treated as a Scout for advancement who has also completed and follows YPT protocols. I’m leery about making the connections and opening some can of worms with her advancement if she is also listed as an Adult Leader. Does anyone have have advice or experience in this unique situation?
