reddit.com/r/cubscouts focuses solely on Cub Scouts. Where as /r/BSA is more broad, but does seem to be for Troop level focused.
Hear hear on that one! I’m becoming very frustrated on this point, particularly with YPT. It’s enough to make me suspect that the BSA is not as honorable an organization as it portrays itself, and it’s beginning to sap my motivation and desire to continue as an adult leader.
The removal of these very helpful forums is just one more straw on that camel.
I recommend we all move to https://www.scouter.com/ rather than Reddit.
Has anyone heard anything about the bankruptcy case? I thought it was supposed to be settled by now.
Trial ended several weeks ago. Judge has yet to issue her ruling.
I hope everyone noted my post two weeks ago and has checked out USScouts.org. No need to reinvent the wheel
The link for the USScouts Discuss it forum doesn’t work
Very disappointed. Came here to find an answer regarding the new BSA swimsuit policy at summer camp. Couldn’t find it online & figured someone here would know. Maybe I will give National a call tomorrow. Maybe we all should…
Yeah, it stinks.
The policy is very simple…
Q: Is there an official swimsuit policy in the BSA? Camp has ended but we want to be prepared for 2022 and this question has come up several times.
A: Our policy is based on Scouting’s Barriers to Abuse: Put simply, “ Appropriate attire is required for all activities .”
Our additional guidance is that swimsuits should be comfortable, functional, and appropriate for the specific activity. We strongly encourage local council policies to be equitable regardless of gender.
Ask away…They haven’t shut this thread down. Let’s discuss
I am very late to this thread, so this forum is being shut down, or just specifically the Cub Scout and Boy Scout sub-sections?
So far, just the program-related forums. The software-related forums are still active.
Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Exploring, Sea Scouts BSA forums were shut down.
This, exactly. Pushing the conversations to less controlled venues does the organization no good. Not sure why they can’t see this. If you’re not going to be the resource of record, people will find a new resource of record. They’re not going to go without. There’s too many leadership gaps and inconsistencies between National and units for volunteers to go without. And to remove their resources is an indication of how little some people value the time of those volunteers.
Disappointing to say the least.
The below group has been very helpful for us at times, but sometimes it’s as if people are answering with “wrong answers only” format enabled…
Agreed. And then others with the wrong answer reinforce the wrong answer. Ugh.
Then they turn off comments before the correct answers can be offered
Yep. Not ideal. A National source was way better IMO.
I wish they would move to Discourse. Our district level forums are on Discourse and it would be nice to use a singular platform (app).
Having been banished and exiled from many scout related Facebook groups i have been scaling back from that environment. I tend to be far more controversial that they can handle. So i am just in those groups that accept it. Even here i am slowly but surely ending my participation. I wish the BSA all the best…
