I logged into my SA account and got a message that I need to add my wife as a connection to our son, otherwise things will be restricted after Dec 31. Is this something new? Will every Scout now need two parents or guardians registered? This seems like a huge ask and burden to put on adult leaders in the troop, to enforce that every Scout has two registered parents or guardians.
@ChristopherHunt5 it does not say that at all - MOST adults have a Scouting Member ID and a Login that works at both Scoutbook and My.scouting.org - it is just that the relationship that is in the Registration system does not always match what is in Scoutbook, so the other parent needs to be added for the Scout(s). Either your council can do that or a second way should soon be available for parents to do it themself, making re-registrations even easier.

Fortunately, the short answer to your question is no.
A parent login is different from an adult leader registration. I’m a District Vice Chair of Membership and I have to explain the difference often.
Clarification about “registration”:
-
Any parent with a login and password has a Scouting America Member ID number. This is not a leadership position, and it is not considered a “registration”. It just gives a parent access to Scoutbook and my.scouting. So, if mom registered a Scout online, she has a Member ID, and ideally, it would remain connected to the Scout. If she doesn’t have a login, she can create one and request that her Member ID be connected to your Scout. Only a few people have the authority to do that, so you may have to contact your local Membership person or District Executive for help.
-
An adult who applies to be a registered leader must submit an application with references, pay a $65 annual registration fee, take SAFE Guarding Youth training, clear a criminal background check and be approved by a Chartered Organization Rep to work in contact with youth.
