Bug: Can't save photo to my.scouting.org profile

Bug report:

Logging into either site:

On both sites, I’m able to upload a simple jpeg file successfully on the Upload pop-up window, but when I click the Save button, on the profile page (not the Upload pop-up window), it returns this error message:

Posting a picture is not allowed, there is a picture already. Use PUT method instead. - personGuid: B4AD5511-5927-40F2-8916-CD2057433F63 - picture already present

I confirmed that the photo is not saved to my profile by going to another page, then returning to Profile, which doesn’t show the photo.

I’m confused by the error message, since I did not already have a photo saved in either of those sites (my… or advancements…). I’ve tried this a couple months ago and got the same error, so it’s not a one-off glitch.

Here’s where it gets really weird.

  1. I had an old photo in: scoutbook.scouting.org. After trying and failing to update my photo in above two sites, I wandered back to Scoutbook and that site now shows the new photo.
  2. After clearing my browser cache, exiting and restarting my browser, I went back to my.scouting.org, but it still doesn’t show the new photo.
  3. But advancements.scouting.org did show the new photo for about 5 minutes, then it went back to showing no photo!

I’ve been a programmer for 40+ years, so I’m being very specific in my language to be very clear, having filled out (and received) many bug reports before.

My Details

  1. Hardware: I’ve tried both: Windows 11 PC and iPhone
  2. Operating system - Windows and iOS (latest)
  3. Browser - Windows Microsoft Edge and Chrome
  4. Browser cache has been cleared: Yes

@StewartStryker - please report this via your council as there is nobody on the forums to support my.scouting.org issues.

Thank you for your response, but…

What you talkin’ 'bout Willis???

What could my council possibly to solve this national issue?

@StewartStryker,

The SUAC folks here are all volunteers, and their only interface is to the folks who support Scoutbook (scoutbook.scouting) and Scoutbook Plus (advancements.scouting). For any issues with training.scouting, my.scouting, etc.scouting, you have to ask your council to open a MemberCare ticket with national. Unfortunately, that is the only way to reach the technical support groups for those other platforms.

I was able to change it here:

I hope that helps!

Robert,

Thanks for the reply. As I said in the beginning, I get the same error when I try on that page too. I just tried again and it still gives the error.

I’m wondering if you didn’t have a photo before now? I had a photo in Scoutbook, so I think that’s what’s causing the error message.

@StewartStryker - well the profile picture i have in my.scouting and scoutbook are the same photo. I do not recall when the photos where uploaded, but I do not think your theory is valid as the site data is in different containers.

Same issue. Photo will not update on Scoutbook Plus or Scoutbook or my.scouting with the same error message on all three sites.

I’m pleased to report that this feature now works for me. I was easily able to change and save my photo via either:

If anyone cares, here’s a screenshot of the success message. I pasted an old photo of me to confirm that it was different from my original.

Finally, I’m surprised that I can’t find this fix listed in May 20, 2025 Scoutbook Plus Updates - Scoutbook / Scoutbook - Scoutbook Plus Change Log - Scouting Forums. But that’s much less important than the feature working, eh?

Thanks to whomever solved this issue.

Stew
