The majority of my parents refuse to check e-mail, which means the reminders from scoutbook+ do nothing.
We were using Band.app for calendar instead of scoutbook+ as the app provided on phone notifications. Due to the fact that the band.app is buggy and horrible we stopped using that.
This means that if I want my parents to bring their Cub Scouts to the meetings I have to manually send out IM reminders to the entire group for every event.
A functional mobile app with notifications tied to the Calendar Event reminders would also work. The current “Scouting” app shows no events on its calendar even though we have 3 events showing in scoutbook+ for this week alone.

The Scouting app calendar may take a few seconds to load but ours always loads before 30 seconds.
You can also show your parents how to subscribe to the pack calendar so that it syncs to their personal phone calendar apps showing all the SB+ events without having to go to the Scouting app. I have added the api code to my calendar handout so families can subscribe without having to login to Internet Advancement to click the button. A bonus is if you change something in SB+ it changes it in their phone app.
Overall, yes, there are a lot of families who won’t check emails. There is a lot of families that will mute any IM they get so its a toss up what they will pay attention to. Our direction is to do both a SB+ calendar email reminder and we use GroupMe for each den for internal IMs which allows for in app notifications. So far it seems to be doing ok. Its a fine line on communicating too much vs too little. Good luck!

@AdamRoberts2 for the Scouting App -= there is no syncing of calendar - it uses the Scoutbook+ Calendar
