I am trying to renew several members of my unit and also drop a number of scouts who are no longer in the unit and should not be renewed. I am a Key 3 (CC) for my unit as well as on the District Committee with applicable district access. I get an error message on both my.scouting and advancements (Scoutbook plus) when I try to opt out members who need to be dropped. The error message says I am not allowed to update this person’s registration. Please help!
@RachelVirden - this is a talk to council thing.
My registrar just confirmed this is a known national issue that national is working on. It’s not a council issue.
@RachelVirden - only council can enter tickets to National for issues like this. That is why I stated reach out to council.
How can we get National to communicate the intricacies of how these things work? Why do we have to go through our council when National could be helping us directly?
You can’t. National made the decision a few years ago that all volunteer support is via Council staff. If you have a suggestion for better documentation, present it to your Council and ask them to open a JIRA ticket.
I did this, but now I’ll have to follow up with the council contact to get an update. Seems fairly backwards to do things this way in 2024. Especially considering National is taking control of this “membership” process.
Keep in mind that the SUAC folks on this discussion group are volunteer scouters like the rest of us. They don’t have any real pull with BSA National, either. The national personnel who make these decisions aren’t on the groups, so they’re not going to see feedback here.
I doubt that BSA is going to change their plans regarding direct-access for volunteer feedback/bug reports/etc, but you could always try to get your council to agitate for that, too.
