Constant Errors and Warning about permissions with Youths and merit badges - SM and ASM have both said I have been given access

Hello, so my trouble with scout book is two(three? four?) fold. First if I pull up the troop roster and click on any youth in our troop I get the 403 STOP error message, if it lets me click on it at all. There was a time when I could pull up their profiles, but not since the migration to Plus I think. Also events/campouts are messed up for me, I could create them and add leaders to them, but never youths. Then the ASM took a look and I could add youths, but now on plus I can’t do either.

I also cannot change anything under merit badges, even when I’m assigned councilor (which another leader has to do because I get 403 STOP errors). To even access a youth’s merit badge I’m assigned to I have to login to Legacy, then click on the youth, click on a merit badge they have already been awarded to bring me to advancements in Plus, then go back to the merit badge level and search for the badge I’m doing. I’ve always had to go about it this way most of the time, but now Before after I did all this I could edit the merit badge, now it just says I do not have permission to make changes.

I’ve brought it up at committee meetings and troop meetings, but both the SM and ASM have said they have given me all permissions that they have given other adults and I would have to talk to someone at Scouting America, which I am not even sure who that would be.

Is there somewhere where I can view what permissions I have and don’t have? From what I can tell I am listed as a Merit Badge councilor, but otherwise I am not sure what info to gather or how I can say what roles I have and haven’t been assigned in the troop.

@NTRNTR - if you are just a merit badge counselor here is the help page for that

So, MBCs do not generally have access into a unit roster, since it’s a council position, not a unit one. The best place to see what your actual registrations are is at my.scouting under the “My Profile” section. Scroll down to the registrations section to see what your actual registered positions are.

In the upper right hand corner of SB+ there is a fleur de lis icon. That’s a drop-down menu of your positions. You would select the MBC position to have MBC access (which doesn’t include unit scouter access) or your registered unit scouter position (e.g. ASM, MC, etc) to have unit access.

Assuming that you have a registered scouter position in your unit, you should be able to hover over the “P” on the line with your name in the roster under the Position heading. That “P” has a pop-up that shows your permissions.

A unit scouter (typically one of the Key 3, but could be someone else if the Key 3 have assigned the relevant permissions) must connect you to the scout in SB+ as a MBC in order for you to access their account to sign-off MB requirements as a counselor.

Thank you for the help, I think the confusion was that I must have had access taken away/corrected but that is not how it was explained to me by the SM/ASM, so I assumed a lot of stuff was in error. Like before I would just click on the youth profile, and do leader approved on the items for my merit badge, but now I see that isn’t the correct way to do it.

I’m a committee member and using the info you gave me I was able to view what permissions I actually have. So I can’t change the troop calendar like I used to be able to, but I can still add campouts under the activity log, which other then merit badge stuff was the only thing I ever did in SB to help out so that works for me. It shows that I have 5 troop positions in SB Plus, but I’m not going to worry about it since I can do what I need to. I just needed to see how to get there now that I can’t use methods I used before. Thank you again.

The Key 3 can separately assign that permission (or various others) depending on what they want to provide for access and what would actually be useful for the role you fill. Committee Member generically has very little access/limited permissions, since the role that any given committee member plays in a unit varies widely.

As irritating as “fixing”/setting the permissions can be at times, I find this a lot better overall than the very limited options for managing permissions that were present in classic SB. More granular permissions were a longstanding ask even prior to Scouting America’s takeover of SB from its original developer.
