Council showing 2 BSA IDs

My council told me that they show 2 BSA IDs for me in their system: ID# 142154618 and ID# 142152095.

Why might I have 2 IDs, and is there a way to merge them?

Generally, two Member IDs occur when there is a discrepancy in the PII entered when they are created. For example typos, using nicknames, or omitting middle names. Sometimes it occurs when a new adult application is submitted and it doesn’t note that the adult already has a member ID. This is most commonly an issue with paper applications and multiple registrations (e.g. unit + MBC or multiple units). In principle, the registrar should catch them if the PII matches, but it doesn’t always work out that way.

The numbers can’t be merged. However, if the PII matches, the user can put both under management at my.scouting by selecting Manage Member ID in the menu and entering the second number. The Member ID under which the user is registered as a scouter generally should be made the primary ID in my.scouting.

The other thing to watch for is your parent relationships to your scout(s). Sometimes parents end up with multiple numbers due to appearing on the different New Scout Applications for their scouts, and each relationship is associated with a different “parent” ID. The registrar should be able to fix that as well using the Registrar Tools.
