Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
I’m marking items as awarded in Scoutbook Plus and have a Scout who earned 2nd Class and 1st Class on the same day (completed conferences and BORs at the same meeting). He received both badges tonight at our COH. The 2nd Class was awarded OK but when I click Award & Finish for 1st Class I get the error:
dateEarned of previous rank should be earlier than dateEarned in the request
I’m guessing Scoutbook Plus doesn’t allow two ranks to be earned on the same day? It didn’t complain when I marked them both complete like that, or when they were approved by the SM. I don’t remember this coming up with Scoutbook (Legacy) in the past.
What would be the right way to resolve this? Roll back the 1st Class approval and completion date, then mark it complete one day later?
I wonder if it’s barfing because it’s trying to apply First Class Requirement 12, which indicates SMC must occur after SMC for Second Class (Requirement 11), but the system only compares the dates the requirements were marked Complete and/or Leader Approved, not the times.
I’m sure that is the case. I’m a web developer and can see that the back end can’t determine what came first if it only has dates to work with and not something like an ISO date, which has both date and time data.
Jeremy, I’m in the same situation. What did you end up doing to handle this? I would prefer to roll back the 2nd Class completion date so his 1st Class remains the same and he doesn’t lose a day of time toward Star. Adjusting the 1st Class Rank seems more appropriate, though, if there is no better solution. Right now I’m wondering if I should just leave it alone and hope it gets fixed within the next 4 months so I can close it out normally. What are your thoughts here?
Donovan, I’ve never used Scoutbook Forums before. Is everybody supposed to report having the same problem, or is one report good enough to submit a help request?
@KimberlyBowers1 I actually didn’t do anything myself. Donovan apparently submitted a ticket and I see now that on 9/23 it was marked awarded by “BSA Administrator.” Ideally the Scouting America developers will fix the issue so we don’t get this error.
In your current situation, I would do what I did here and post the Scout’s ID to this thread and ask @DonovanMcNeil to submit a ticket.
I see you are new here—welcome to the forums, they are useful and the Scoutbook advisory council members are active here.
