Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
I have a scout (ID 141829760). The scouting online application now adays just reflects verbatim what the applicant fills in for name. This means I had a few that had all capitalized last name or all lower case last names that I see in Advancement. I asked council to change them and they did. Now when I click on a scout’s profile, I see the proper spelling under Personal Information.
And this spelling is also correct in My.Scouting.
HOWEVER, the display name, e.g. the name that is displayed in the roster, and the name that is displayed in the rectangle “summary” is still the old spelling. There’s no way to change it. Where is the system pulling the info?
Yay. I see the fix. But this was specific to a scout? Scout ID 141958978 also has the same issue.
Related to display names I also noticed that when the system sorts by first name it doesn’t sort by display names, is that on purpose?
For example, in the calendar, supposing I’m marking all the scouts that attended an event, it sorta by first name. But it sorts by system name and not display names.
Yes. Every scout has a Preferred name setting. But this setting isn’t used when you’re sorting by First Name in the Calendar Attendees list. Wondering if this is a bug or a feature.
Yes. That is exactly what it is. I’ve got a person whose preferred name starts with A but his real name starts with Z and when it sorts by first name I’m always finding him at the end of the list. Took me months to figure out that even though it displays his preferred name, it’s actually sorting by real first name.
