Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
I was able to reproduce this error with two scouts. I’m the advancement chair of our troop and have full access. I’m trying to Invite a merit badge counselor to a scout’s merit badge after I sign unit leader signature.
Sign Unit Leader Signature in Scoutbook Plus
Go to legacy Scoutbook and through the Invite Counselor button, add a counselor to one scout’s cooking and camping merit badge. (ID 133934021)
Go back to verify this Counselor is added by clicking on Cooking merit badge for example. I can of course see it in the summary listing of all the merit badges this scout is working on, when it was signed by unit leader, etc. But before migration I was able to click to view details.
Verify this is an error by click on another merit badge which DOES NOT have a unit leader signature or a counselor invited and I can see the details.
Verified this again by going to another scout who had the unit leader signature but not a merit badge counselor assigned. I was able to view the details just fine. But encountered the error message again when I invited a counselor to the merit badge.
The counselor is in troop and does have view permission on “View Profile” “View Advancement”, “Approve Cooking MB”, etc. Where as I have “Full Control” if I look under connections manager.
I received same error tonight assigning merit badge counselor to Snow Sports merit Badge for Scout. After assigning, it shows the counselor assigned in the Merit Badges view but gives the error when clicking on the Merit Badge to see the detail again:
It doesn’t say anything. It shows that the unit leader has signed it. Nothing else is marked. At the bottom of left side it tells you to use Legacy Scoutbook to assign merit badge counselor. That’s it.
Same error for my scout when trying to view details of progress for cooking merit badge. Before the transition he had several requirements completed, now shows 0%. How can we view what was signed off previously in legacy sb?
I suspect your Scout is on Cooking 2016. Currently Scoutbook Plus only supports the last 2 versions of Cooking. There is work in progress to support more.
To see her current progress, go to Legacy Scoutbook (https://scoutbook.scouting.org), click on your Scout’s name then go to Scout’s Merit Badges. You should be able to see progress on 2016 there.
Thanks for the response. When I log into that link, go to my scout, then click on merit badges, then click on cooking mb, that’s when I get the error. He previously was about 60% complete on this badge and doesn’t have documentation outside of scout book to rebuild…
In sb+ it shows no progress for any of the versions. I think you are correct that he started with the 2023 version in legacy sb and there are now 2024 & 2025.
My son also started Cooking on the 2023 version. I had clicked on one of the new versions and couldn’t get back to the 2023 version until a merit badge counselor was able to get in through Legacy Scoutbook to change it back.
If you have a Unit Admin print his Scouts BSA History Report, it should list the requirements he had signed off under the 2023 version. At the bottom it lists partial merit badges and the requirements that have been completed. You can use that as a start to be able to track the merit badge using a blue card and get the final competion signed off.
