Every Scout marked Complete for Every Merit Badge

HI,

My Member ID is 13843156. I am Scoutmaster for Troop 140.

We are not sure how, but there seems to have been a bulk entry last night to mark every Scout complete for Every Merit Badge. This totals 6852 Merit Badge Completions.

We need some help to have this rolled back

Robert

@SiennaScoutmaster you would need to post an example Member # of a scout and an effected MB to even begin to understand it

Here is the first one in the list of 6982

Member ID: 133673012

Merit Badge: Wildland Fire Management

If you hover over the Complete under the progress bar- what does the Audit data say for complete?

Marked completed by XXXXXX on 10/25/2026

@SiennaScoutmaster by a leader in the unit? If so put the Member #

Yes, by a leader in the unit. All 6982 Merit Badge Completion marked complete by Member ID 141032607

Sounds like they went in and marked all scouts and all MBs in QE Multiple Merit badges. It would have had to have been a very intentional act. I would start by asking them. Or others with access to their account.

Yes … we have reached out to see if they can remember what may have caused this.

What steps do we have available to have this rolled back?

Lets start with user answer - they would have had to select every single MB to do this - one button selects all scouts, but not MBs, but that is what it looks like happened, as a parent/SM kind of wonder if a scout had access to the account.

Got it. Will get a response.

Looks like SB+ Unit Quick Entry for Multiple Merit Badges would allow this to happen with a single action. Select All Scouts, then select all merit Badges and click Apply.

This would mean it is a single batch of data entry that could hopefully be isolated and removed.

I have asked for a clean up script of the data. But that user needs some communication to prevent this in the future I think

Absolutely.

The user has responded. She thought she was running a report on Merit Badge Completions. Says the computer span for quite a while. After the apply button was clicked, she realized what she had done, but it was too late to cancel the action.

Head shake - well perhaps an education session? LOL maybe they need to spend several hours clearing their mistake out to learn (says the SM in me,)

Scoutbook Plus for Troops, Crews and Ships - Scoutbook Knowledge Base - at top is a video that walks through most everything in SB+

As it did not say reports???

Custom report builder can create a report like that.

@SiennaScoutmaster - or the user could use this report

Yes to both. Our Advancement chair will sit with her and provide some training.

LOL the more I think on it the more my head shakes. She had to enter a date in the Complete field for it to even run.

I would also suggest this is an opportunity for the SB+ designers to consider design choices to save users from themselves

e.g. limit the number of total MBs that can be completed in a single batch

restrict the Multiple Merit Badge tool to advancement chairs, and Key 3,

etc.

@SiennaScoutmaster - the key 3 can restrict access in the unit via permissions manager

no - the idea of SB+ allowing a unit to define who can enter advancements is just that - as soon as SB limits what advancements can be entered by that person others will say it is broken. Your unit decided to allow this person to have that power.
