How does Patrol Admin translate to the new permissions in Scoutbook Plus?

Question for the new Scoutbook Plus permission system. My troop has one Scoutmaster and 11 Assistant Scoutmasters. We assign the ASMs to specific patrols (we have 9 patrols total). So some ASMs are connected to patrols in Group A but not in Group B, and vice versa. The outcome we want is that ASMs has full control for only the Scouts in the patrols to which they are assigned (Group A or Group B, but not both). For the Scouts not in their assigned patrols, it was View/Edit Profile

In Scoutbook Legacy, we easily achieved this by (1) Each ASM got the Assistant Scoutmaster position (2) We made them a “Patrol Admin” for the patrols in Group A or Group B (3) Then on the connections screen, we verified that those ASMs had full control for those Scouts in their group only. (4) ASMs had View/Edit Profile access to Scouts not in their patrols

I’m confused how to do this in Scoutbook Plus. In Permissions Manager, I see all my ASMs listed correctly in the dropdown, but how does the specific patrol linkage work if I don’t see patrol names as an option?

Note: my troop is in the early adopter program so I already have access to Permissions Manager in SB+. I am the Committee Chair.

I believe you assign them to a patrol first in the roster, then add the Subunit Support functional role (and any desired associated abilities). I’m not sure what happens if you wanted to assign them to two patrols, for example. I assume that you could select which patrol has which permissions, but don’t have a convenient scouter to test this on (since I’m a K3D, and wouldn’t see a useful difference).

I’m not quite sure how that might impact things, since I’m in a “regular” unit.

What we understand - any sub-unit permissions given are universal for all patrols the leader is assigned to

Donovan, I’m assigning ASMs to the appropriate Patrols in SB Legacy. Screenshot enclosed. So are you saying that these adults will be automatically given sub-unit permissions? It’s not obvious in Permission Manager in SB+. It appears that patrol based permissions still have to be setup in SB Legacy, even though National seems to want to get away from Legacy.

@ShirleyHou - you should be assigning them in advancements.scouting.org NOT classic scoutbook and that has been noted to you several times.

@ShirleyHou The ONLY things to use Legacy for are
MBC Management and Assignment

Payment Log

I didn’t explain things clearly the first time. I think we are saying the same thing. I assign Scouts to their patrols in SB+. (My mistake for showing the SB Legacy screen). Then the adults (ASMs) for that patrol are added to “Adults in Patrol” in SB+. Picture shown below. My assumption is that those ASMs have ASM rights (full control) only to the patrols that they are assigned to, not every patrol.

Thank you Donovan!

Please confirm that this is the right process for now re: merit badges: the unit adult leader provides the initial unit leader signature for a youth’s merit badge in SB+, then they switch over to SB Legacy to assign the MB Counselor via the “Invite the Counselor button” or via Connections.

Is this the correct procedure until everything moves to SB+?

You have to also assign the Sub-unit Support functional role, and assign the desired permissions to each ASM.
