Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
I am not receiving Scout book emails from certain leaders. I receive event reminder emails I receive emails from some leaders but not others. We are all pack admins if that means anything.
In the past two days, there have been three emails that went out. I received two but not one of them. Asking around other leaders and parents have received them.It does seem to consistently be the same leaders that I don’t receive emails from. Everybody is always selecting all parents and leaders when they send.
@TylerRieger simplest answer is usually the answer. Do not guess. Make sure by watching them, that these users know what they are doing. Likely they are leaving you out.
I appreciate the simple answer but I can assure that is not it. They are not just un-selecting me. We’ve trouble shot many variables with no consistency.
Can you specify what you tested, so that folks don’t suggest the same things (or can clarify if a particular setting might be impacting things)?
My experience is similar to Donvan’s. If it’s always the same sender, it’s usually something they are doing. If it were a system issue sending to your email provider (e.g. blacklisting or hitting a spam filter), you wouldn’t be getting the other emails.
For example, what happens if those individual leaders send a message just to you directly from their email account? What about just sending to you from within SB classic messaging interface? Are they using any of the Feature Assistant Extension features to add things to the email?
It’s hard to know whether I am not receiving emails because I am not always in the know about them being sent.
I get personal emails from all leaders frequently.
It’s just the emails sent from SB classic messaging interface.
I get SB classic messaging interface emails frequently however I did not get one on 9/25, I did get 2 on 10/15, I did not get one on 10/29.
We’ve sent with emojis in the subject and without. We have used attachments and not. Different users. As it’s not consistent, it’s hard to pinpoint what’s causing it.
I am both a leader and a parent so for me to not get them due to user error, the user would need to be un-selecting me from both lists.
The messages you know you missed, were those sent from the messaging interface, or were they automated event reminder messages? Those are handled slightly differently, IIRC, so I’m wondering if it might be an event setup issue if they are event reminders.
Have you tested just sending to you in SB messaging the identical messages from a user whose emails you know you haven’t gotten (e.g. one the messages and senders you listed above) to verify that you can get messages from them how they have things set up?
You didn’t specify whether the users are using some of the Feature Assistant Extension features. In particular, I was wondering if some of the users might be using predefined saved groups to send messages. If you’re missing from that group, it wouldn’t matter that you appear on both the scouter and parent lists in the messaging interface.
I was assuming the the senders from whom you’ve had trouble getting messages are registered scouters. Is that correct, or are the senders “just” parents (i.e. not also scouters in the unit)?
The confirmed misses messages were sent from the messaging interface - not automated event reminders.
We have not tried sending identical messages. Thought there is that there is not (to my knowledge) a way in SB messaging to see messages previously sent therefore, a message could contain the same content, but could never be identical. I have received SB messages from the same senders both before and after and can only assume they, like me, do the same thing each time.
I did not respond about Feature Assistant Extension features because I do not know what those are. Pretty basic here: Pack ## > Send message > Select Recipients > Select All Leaders, Select All Parents > Subject, Message, File Attachments, BCC=Yes > Send.
The senders are all registered scouters and Pack Admins.
Fair enough. I was thinking using the original message received by others as the template to recreate it in terms of format.
The Feature Assistant Extension is a volunteer-built add-on for Firefox and Chrome that provided a number of features that were missing from classic Scoutbook. Most if not all of them are ultimately going to be adopted in some form in the “final” SB+, but for now, features still fully in classic SB still have access to the bulk of the extension’s tools. There’s an actual explanation of the available features here:
It’s good to know that the senders are all scouters, so that shouldn’t in-and-of-itself be an issue. The sending method seems to be the vanilla classic SB interface, so it doesn’t immediately sound like the Feature Assistant is in play.
I don’t know if Donovan or one of the other SUAC has any other ideas for what to look at for additional troubleshooting. It does still seem like a message-specific issue, to be honest, because it’s both intermittent and the same users have successfully sent to you through the same interface.
Your e-mail is also on one of your Scout’s Scoutbook accounts, and it is opted out there. I can remove it from the Scout’s Scoutbook account, if you would like.
It might matter whether the scout was included on the email or just the adults. I guess there could be an underlying race condition, though. That would certainly explain why it was apparently random.
Thank you. Is there a way I can see that? I looked in SB+ and SB classic and regardless of which kid I selected, it took me back to my same profile. The only place I found a opt-out button was SB classic > My Dashboard > My Account > Email.
I don’t think parents can see email opt-outs for their kids. I couldn’t see it for my son when he was active, anyway. I had to have him log in, reset the slider, then he got email again.
Would’ve been just Parents. Under Youth Members, there are only three and none are my own kids. Hopefully solved by Jennifer though. Feel free to dig deeper if you want though. Solving puzzles is fun. Haha. Thanks you for your help today.
You could create a username (login) for them at my.Scouting, but you might want to wait until they are older. When you do create a login for them, make sure you match to their already existing member ID number so you don’t create a new member ID.
