Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
I have a Scout in our Troop who dropped out of Scouting for a bit in 2022-23. While he was previously active, parents were receiving emails via Scoutbook just fine.
The scout rejoined our troop in May/June 2023. I learned today that his parents have not been receiving any emails at all since he rejoined.
Their email addresses are correct. They have checked their spam. What’s the next step?
@DeborahJennings - so the emails in scoutbook.scouting.org are correct ? When you go to send message they are listed there and are not showing no email ?
Parents are not receiving any emails sent via the “Send a Message” function of Scoutbook.
They are also not receiving any event reminders from events set up in the other/new part of Scoutbook/IA.
Their email addresses are correct. Dad is currently is set to No Emails, which obviously is a problem. But mom’s email is correct and she’s not receiving anything.
Try sending a message to her and yourself with bcc turned off. When you receive the email, do you see her email in the to box? That will at least get us pointed in the right direction.
I then forwarded it to her (I am also a Gmail user) and she didn’t get that either!
I forwarded an event reminder to her and her husband (all Gmail users and we’ve been in scouts together since our 9th graders were Tigers, so they’ve received PLENTY of emails from me!) and he received it from me (but not from SB b/c he’s set to no email, which I will help him fix). But she did NOT receive it.
I’m thinking it’s a blacklist/whitelist issue for her?
Honestly, it sounds more like a user issue, since your gmail is receiving Scoutbook/SB+ emails/reminders (as is mine for my unit).
Maybe Gmail is “helping” them by hiding things it thinks they don’t want to see (or don’t frequently open…), based on using one of the customized inboxes or some other sort of filtering?
There was something in the filters of her Gmail settings. She doesn’t remember doing anything so I wonder if it happened when there were issues with emails being blacklisted in 2023.
