I have had several parents point out that their IDs connected to their Scouts are wrong. I checked and my own ID listed with my son is also incorrect. As a test I sent an invitation to one parent to re-connect using the correct ID number listed under the Roster in my.scouting, but will I have to do this for every affected Scout?
To be more clear, the IDs listed in Internet Advancement are wrong. They appear to be correct in my.scouting
I’ll look into your account first and will request MIDs if necessary.
You have 2 Scouting America Member IDs. Your registered ID which you logged in here with. This MID is connected to your son with first initial S. You have another ID with your nickname instead of first name. The e-mail address on this MID is from a university. This ID is connected to your son with first initial W.
I recommend you contact your Council and ask them to use the relationship tab of Registar Tools to change your connected MID on W to your registered MID.
I suspect you have similar issues with other parents. You will need to get your Registrar involved to fix these if they also have multiple MIDs because you do not want more than one MID per parent connected to a child.
Also, I noticed you are listed as a Key 3 Delegate of the troop where you are Committee Chair. Please use the Positions Manager tab of the Roster in my.scouting.org to remove this. Since you are Key 3 you do not need the Key 3 Delegate role and we have seen cases where this causes problems.
I have added your “nickname” MID as secondary on your my.scouting.org account. When you speak with your Council, ask them to also fix the name on the MID to use your legal name.
Thank you. One question: I don’t have a son with First Initial W. Did you mean First Initial M?
I guess another question: why are these conflicts showing up now?
Sorry, M. I hate it when the paying job gets in the way of Scouting ![]()
Scouting America is trying to improve security of the system. In Scoutbook anyone could be made a parent of any Scout. In Scoutbook Plus, the relationships all come from Akela, the membership database. In your case, you had 2 different MIDs because you used your legal name on one registration, either when you registered as a leader or when you registered S and your nickname when you registered M.
In other cases, only one parent has a relationship to the Scout in Akela but two are connected as parents in Scoutbook. Since there is no way to know if the 2nd Scoutbook parent is a real parent, the new relationship must be created and validated.
