Does this work? I’ve heard that we shouldn’t use it. Typically, we have the Cubmaster send AOL Scouts to their new troops in the my.scouting roster using the Transfer feature. Or, we have parents initiate the transfer in my.scouting. But our troops keep finding those directions for “in-council transfer initiated by the unit they are joining” and they attempt to pull the Scouts in. Are there risks to doing this? Reasons we should discourage it?
@AnnMacPhail it has worked fine for me in the past - no issue
The main reason not to do it is if the unit they are leaving has not updated all of their advancement yet. They will have no way to do so once the transfer is complete. So, talk to the pack leadership before moving forward.
Very helpful answer. Thank you.
One leader just shared another possible reason – their troop had an AOL Scout who was pulled in by another troop, assuming that he was from their “feeder pack” so he would naturally bridge at the same chartered org. It sounds like he visited both troops and maybe even took some time to make up his mind. Not a big deal in the end…they transferred him to the right troop.
With great power comes great responsibility!
That gets solved by communication, too. No one should ever assume anything about a scout’s plans.
