The system does not appear to be calculating the ‘time in position’ and ‘time in troop’ correctly for rank advancement. I have a Scout (13733976) who received their First Class Rank 11/17/25. Star rank requirements include being active in the Troop and having a leadership role for 4 months (req. 1 and 5). From what I understand, Scouting America calculates that as being complete today (3/16/26), but Scoutbook will not allow me to mark the requirements complete – it says the 4 months have not elapsed.
The calculations are how Program wants them to run - we have had many discussions around it.
So how do I approve it?
Based on everything I can find regarding calculation of “4 month” or “6 month” durations, is says the duration is met on the "n-1” day of the month, 4 or 6 months from the previous Board of Review. Scoutbook is not allowing me to approve rank advancement that meets that requirement.
@MarkDelsman - I am thinking that the 17th will be the date to approve it.
That’s great, except Boards of Review are tonight, requiring everything to be completed, per ‘the system’. So Scoutbook is preventing our Scout from proper timely rank advancement.
Or are you saying the “n-1” calculation is NOT the correct method for determining rank advancement requirements? If so, can you provide a link to that guidance?

How Is a “Month” Defined?
A month is a month regardless how many days it has. It is not defined as 30 days or four weeks. February 2 up to and including August 1, or August 31 up to and including February 28 (or 29th if leap year) are examples of six-month periods. Six months does not mean 180 days.
Yeah we are discussing again - kind of thinking something changed - I would just do BOR tonight and date it tomorrow

Exactly, so the Scout became First Class on 11/17/25, so 4 months has elapsed today, 3/16/26. As such, I should be able to mark it complete. Scoutbook will not let me.
@Stephen_Hornak thanks - there is no need for a Tangent - it is spelled out in the GTA - just maybe different than it was before
I will say this whole days calculation in scoutbook vs months in GTA is really something where the language should reflect the same in both places. Pick one method or the other. Just my opinion and by reading some responses here it’s a dead horse issue I guess.
