Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
All - I see that the James E West Fellowship Award is now available for scouts under the Awards section. This is great as my son donated to this and was recognized for it in Jan 2019 with the certificate and square knot for his uniform. I have copied his certificate to the award comments area but the “Percent Completed” field is grayed out and will not allow me to enter any dates. I have also confirmed that the “Percent Completed” is also grayed out on several other scout records I looked at. Is there a time for this to be fixed?
We heard back from the design team. The problem is the Council recorded the adult version of the James E. West Fellowship in the Scout’s record instead of the youth version. If they change the award to the youth version, it should appear in Scoutbook.
The James E. West Fellowship award for Scouts has been removed. This is not an award that is typically entered into other systems that would be required to push the award to Scoutbook. If, in the future, these other systems are updated to allow the James E. West Fellowship to be pushed to Scoutbook, it may be restored.
This is likely being pulled from SB - more research should have been done - it is simply an award not entered into the council system (like SM Key, Silver Beavers, etc) - there are only 9 instances of Scouts having this award)
It turns out the Scoutbook developers created a youth version. This is being removed at least until the resources are available to properly support displaying the James. E. West Fellowship award in Scoutbook. Note at this time we do not know if or when resources will be made available to add this support.
Thank you all for your replies on this. Sorry if I stirred up something that wasn’t meant to be. I just thought it was a very nice award to include amongst all of the other awards that scouts could get. My husband, an ASM, is also a James E West Fellow and our son was interested in also donating so he used his own money for this and he just used the same form to donate that my husband did. If it shows up as an award in SB great and hopefully I will be able to enter it for him. If not, well he still has his James E West Fellow certificate which is in his awards binder that proves he the award was presented to him. Either way he wears the knot proudly on his uniform and it will probably be talked about in his Eagle SMC or EBOR in the new few months.
@RobertaStech you did nothing - SUAC appreciates you bringing it to our attention - Well done by your Scout and they should wear the knot with honor on youth AND ADULT uniforms
Everyone that cares to report bugs, should. It makes a service that doesn’t have unlimited quality control resources more robust for those that use it later and don’t have as much attention to detail as well as motivation.
