Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
Many people in the past have asked to have SB open sourced or to volunteer to work on development with the BSA. The answer has always been no and that the answer will not change.
A few years ago, the BSA decided to stop providing direct support to volunteers, pushing that support back to the Councils. Councils are able to open tickets with National Member Care on behalf of members when the Council can’t resolve the issue. This was done as part of budget cuts due to bankruptcy. The national staff does not have the resources to directly support members.
Thank you for the explanation. I personally feel that the issues described are the right reasons for allowing assistance with development, but I’m sure they have their reasons and preconceived notions. I was in scouting in the good old days of national support, and understand the resource issues, but some councils are not in great shape right now either resource wise to take on all the support. It tears people like us up who want to help (and may have the necessary skills) but are turned away. That’s all. Have a good one and scout on!
