Missing Leader Approval button for advancements

Hi,

I’m the Assistant Scoutmaster in my daughters troop. The new Scoutmaster and new Committee Chair have asked me to help enter advancements from summer camp but I only have the completed button. I don’t have the leader approved button. The SM went to connections manager and is says I have full control under each scout. I’ve googled for help and it says to click on the adults profile and click “edit advancements” but we can’t find that when we click on the profile. Can someone take some screen shots to show us where that is?

Thank you,
Tara

@TaraGilman-Sheffield and you are looking in Legacy Scoutbook @ scoutbook.scouting.org?

@TaraGilman-Sheffield Which council?

@TaraGilman-Sheffield

In order to have the Leader Approved button the Scouting America Member ID in Scoutbook must be registered in the unit you are trying to manage.

I am. Have been registered in the troop for 3 years. Used to have button now I don’t. We can’t figure out why.

Heart of New England

Yes i am. Should the scoutmaster be looking somewhere else.

Does your position in the troop show up in your positions at my.scouting? Also, take look at your positions in Scoutbook to see if your ASM position in the troop appears there as well.

If yes to both, try forcing a reload of the Scoutbook page.

If yes to the first but no to the second, then see if your unit admins can add your ASM position in the troop to you under your Positions in Scoutbook.

My.scouting seems to be the problem. My daughter and I are showing in the unit on scoutbook but showing expired in my.scouting. The unit had a big problem rechartering this year with all the changes and payment issues that happened nationally. Just spoke to COR and he said to call council monday as a lot of people are having the same issue.
I will post hear once i have a solution hopefully tomorrow.

@TaraGilman-Sheffield - well my.scouting.org is the official roster and not scoutbook so hopefully it gets fixed.

@TaraGilman-Sheffield

You are currently registered in Heart of New England and Western MA Councils. Because of this you have 2 Scouting America Member IDs (MID). I only found a single my.scouting.org ID for you.

You have 2 Scoutbook IDs, one for each MID.

At this point you have 2 choices in order to approve advancement in units in 2 Counicls.

  1. Create a 2nd my.scouting.org ID using your last name with a space instead of a hyphen then log in to that ID to manage the Heart of NE unit and your current ID to manage the Western MA unit.
  2. Using the single my.scouting.org ID, change the primary MID each time you want to log in to the “other” council’s Scoutbook account.

Because Scoutbook only supports one MID you will not be able to approve advancement for both units from a single Scoutbook Account becuase the system checks to make sure the MID on the Scoutbook account is registered in the unit in order to display the Leader Approved check box.

Correct I’m registered in 2 councils. I can toggle between councils in my.scouting.org. I have my primary council set to Western Mass. The bigger issue I discovered is that in Heart of New England both myself and my daughter are showing expired in Heart of New England as of 12/31/25. The Heart of New England unit had a really difficult time processing recharter and the COR had to go to council after the deadline to process it. I mentioned to the CC at the time that I kept getting emails for my daughter being expired and she said that’s weird she’s on the recharter but never investigated the issue. So I spoke to the COR yesterday and he said I need to call Heart of New England council and have them fix it. He also mentioned we are not the only ones to have this issue. I have been in this unit for 3 years and only after recharter started to have problems.

@TaraGilman-Sheffield Your registration in Heart of New England Council looks OK to me through the end of this year. In the other council, it looks like you have a registration in a troop that will expire at the end of this month.

My recommendation is to create a second username (login) for Heart of New England Council. You can name it something like:

XXXXXHONEC

And set your HONEC member ID number as primary there.
