I just spoke with him and it will be several hours before he is home with access to his computer. I can see from my download that his Availability is “Available”, his Listing Preference is “Council List”, and there are 6 merit badges listed. He is going to call me when he gets home. What else should he check?
@ThomasStalnaker - i posted a grab of my settings earlier. Can you try searching for me to see if i get listed
Yes. I see you when I look either by name of merit badge.
@ThomasStalnaker - perfect then my worldwide setting works. I would be willing to add that if i restrict my settings then the search would fail to find me
I can have Jay try that when he gets home, and also change the settings, save them, and change them back to see if that helps. This just happened a few weeks ago and we have not been able to identify what caused it.
@ThomasStalnaker - we know several things to be true…you can fibd him via merit badge and i can connect him to a scout by name and mid.
I can not find him by merit badge, which means that Scoutmasters can not find him by merit badge. They would not have his MID, so could not connect a Scout even if they knew he was a counselor. I guess he could connect to a Scout if a Scout came to him with their name and MID but a Scout would not be able to have their Scoutmaster find him.
@ThomasStalnaker - ah… I mis-read about the find via MB. The scoutmaster can certainly find them via the scout connection page as I did. All i did was go to a scout record then connections, then add enter his name, check off include MBC then search. I did not need mid, zip code,:
There is also this report in my.scouting.org
Interestingly he does show up on the my.scouting.org listing, although that list is not very useful to a Scoutmaster because it is by counselor name, not by merit badge. I will have the counselor play with the settings when he gets back to me. I will let you know if we are able to make any difference.
@ThomasStalnaker - actually it can be useful if rather than opening the file right in excel when it downloads, import the csv into excel then do a find on column 15 for the merit badge in question.
True, if using the list electronically in Excel. I still want to get the Scoutbook issue fixed since that is supposed to be how Scoutmasters are looking for counselors. Can you see the council listed in Scoutbook? I am wondering if that somehow changed so Scoutbook thinks he is council only in some other council. It should be 539. When he calls me I will have him try worldwide and see if I can see him then.
@ThomasStalnaker - I see him listed as Chester County Council when I connect him to my son.
I had him change to Worldwide and then he appeared in my search. He changed back to Council Wide and he stayed visible. It looks like something in the database had gotten corrupted and we changed it and the bad data got corrected. Thank you very much for your help!
@ThomasStalnaker - glad to hear that it is fixed. At least if you come across a similar situation you have a way to fix it. The personal settings go back to when an individual could add positions without any check from council.
