I was wondering if you could add more options to the email event reminders. I don’t understand why you limit them the way you do. For example, I can set up an email reminder for three weeks or one month, but not 22 days. This is annoying, because events sometimes have deadlines and I like to time the email reminders to coincide with the deadlines. I also like to set up email reminders for the morning after a troop meeting, while it’s fresh in everyone’s mind, but this isn’t always possible given the limitations.
Scouting America IT decided to limit the timeframe of reminders to simplify programming. There are no plans to revisit the decision and increase the options for sending reminders.
If you disagree with this decision, you can try to convince your Council professional staff of the importance of additional reminder options. If they agree, they can open a ticket with Scouting America Member Care requesting the enhancement.
Granted, I’m not a software engineer so I have no idea what’s easy and what’s difficult. However, it seems to me that Scouting America should be more focused on making the jobs of its volunteers easier. There are days when I feel like I’m working an IT help desk for parents in our Troop with their Scoutbook problems in additional to my regular full time job. Everything about Scoutbook is a big middle-finger to the volunteers.
Scouting America does not have an unlimited IT budget. They are doing the best they can with the budget and other constraints they have. Prioritizing development work is not easy and tradeoffs must be made. It was decided that not having daily granularity for event reminders was a reasonable tradeoff to make in order to move developers on to other important Scoutbook Plus work.
