Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
I am the advancement chair for our pack and need to order advancements today. I noticed that our report did not show many advancements, so I tried to check on the status for some of my own child’s advancements that were entered last week or prior and are still not approved. However, I can no longer access the advancements.
My Dashboard
Click on scout who is under “My Family”
(Permissions = full control)
Click _____’s Advancement
Takes to Youth Profile under Scoutbook Plus where I only see relationships, program leadership, and activity logs for camping, hiking, and service hours.
Left side options include Calendar, Youth Profile, Profile, and Scoutbook.
Clicking Scoutbook takes me back to my dashboard where I start all over again.
Can someone please advise how I can get back in to view advancement progress, enter advancements, etc?
@LaKeshiaSnyder Cub advancement has been only in Scoutbook + for several months. You need to work with your council as your registered positions are not in place - there for you do not have access to the system.
As a parent, shouldn’t I have access to my own child’s advancements?
I literally just updated them this weekend from Scoutbook. And I placed our advancements orders using reports from Scoutbook on 2/5 and 3/5.
Cub Scout advancement has not been in Scoutbook since June 2024. You need to use Scoutbook Plus (advancements.scouting.org) or as a parent the Scouting app.
Advancement reports are still in legacy Scoutbook.
As Ed and Donovan were saying, the Cub Scout advancement program changed in June 2024. The new requirements and adventures were only implemented in Scoutbook+ (advancements.scouting), not in classic Scoutbook (scoutbook.scouting).
Scoutbook+ relies on registered positions to determine permissions for access. As “just” a parent (i.e. not also a registered scouter), the system assumes your primary access is via the Scouting app. Since Scoutbook+ relies on registered roles to assign permissions, unless the parent/guardian relationship is set up in the official registration database by the council registrar, a parent won’t be added to/have parent access to Scoutbook+. @CharleyHamilton thank you for breaking that down. Can you clarify where/how I continue to enter advancements for my child? The scouting app only has 3 icons - My Scouts (which shows my son but has no option to click or proceed anywhere), Events, and Account.
Hrm…I’m seeing the same issue in the app: selecting My Scouts → clicking on my son’s name doesn’t go anywhere. That said, my son has aged-out and is no longer registered, so I can’t say if that’s a bug in the app or the intended behavior. Donovan or Ed, thoughts? I’m wondering if the lapsed registration is what Donovan meant here:
And it’s expected behavior that an “expired” scout is no longer accessible in the app? I’m thinking of my case with charter valid, adult registration valid but youth expired & aged-out.
