Needs Approval no longer shows who marked complete

I’m an advancement chair for a troop. I had been leaving a few things “to leader-approve” in my Needs Approval list on old SB, either because MB requirements were checked off by a scout, or rank requirements were checked off by a parent. (I wait until a MBC or ASM marks/signs those before marking them approved in SB.) Today when I logged in and clicked Need Approval Report, I was taken to SB+ where the scout’s MB is still in my “To Approve” tab, but there’s no indicator that it is only the scout completion checkmark. That seems problematic; how am I to distinguish between valid approvals by a MBC and temporary checkmarks by a scout? In the case where a parent had checked the box on rank requirements that I was waiting for an ASM signature to validate, those do not show up in the SB+ “To Approve” tab. I was able to drill down and verify in old scoutbook that all of the items mentioned here are still only marked “complete” and not “leader approved” in oldSB.

Also, I have an older Star scout who has webelos adventures appearing in my “to approve” queue now also.

On Cubs things @CarolGee you can now use the system to Record them so they are no longer in your list

On the Audit data that is dependent on Advancement moving to SB+ - that Audit data is still in Legacy Scoutbook to be viewed under the Scouts Profile.

@CarolGee on the Audit data in Report I see what you are saying and have reported it in

I also have the same problem. Scoutbook allows scouts and parents who are not MB counselors or scoutmasters to mark requirements as complete leaving it to advancement chairs to verify work is completed by trained adults. Additionally in this new Needs Approval report I am seeing cub advancements (and I am not associated with a cub pack) as well as needs approval for ranks that were approved & awarded years ago.

@MichaelCzyz the Cub Stuff as it shows can just be Recorded so it does not show anymore - that is the Process National has established

Ideally the leader who signs the Scout’s handbook will mark the requirement complete in Scoutbook. If this is not done, the person marking the requirement approved will be looking at the handbook (or photo of the handbook) to know who approved the requirement. NO one should be approving advancement for Scouts BSA in Scoutbook without being the one who tested the Scout or seeing evidence the Scout was tested and passed. Being marked complete just says the Scout is ready to be tested.

In my troop, the Advancement Chair only approves the Board of Review in SB. Every other requirement is approved by the SM or designated ASM. MBs are only approved after receiving a physical Blue Card unless the MBC uses SB and marks the MB as counselor approved.

The issue I am having then, once I read this was I cannot seem to turn off scoutbook reporting permissions. Parents have full control on the connections manager which means a well meaning parent can just check it all off? How do I make it so scouts themselves cannot mark things complete on scoutbook?

@RuthVila - how do you prevent scouts from marking things complete in their handbook. Complete is not the same as approved

@RuthVila Scout have every right to mark complete - it is the same as them marking the left column of the Scout Handbook to say they are ready to be tested on an item

but if scouts can mark it complete in scoutbook where does an adult leader approve it if the “approve advancements” option does not exist?

@RuthVila - does this not show up for you:

Approve advancement Does still exist - both on the individual requirement or Advancement it self or in the New Advancements Tab at Scoutbook+. Creating a PO Report to Bring to the Scoutshop from Scoutbook / Scoutbook Plus - Scoutbook Knowledge Base has a top video that shows approval tab

It does but it is not showing any of my troop level scout stuff. It only shows AOL for one kid who crossed over last year.

Unfortunately, SB allows Scouts or untrained parents to check off complete items without SM/ASM or MB counselor input. Our process is set up so that I as the SM approves everything. Right now, I have a number of requirements that have been checked off by Scouts or parents that I’m unwilling to approve. It’s very important for me to see the column we had in SB that indicated who checked of the requirement.

@RuthVila you can go to Legacy Scoutbook and backdoor to old approval to see if there is anything to approve. Go to Reports > click Needs Awarding > in the URL change /mobile/dashboard/reports/needsawarding… to needs /mobile/dashboard/reports/needsapproval… - it seems some users not all is immediately loading in SB+. If you see things in Legacy but not SB+ please tell us

@MichaelCato

A scout or parent marking something complete in SB is notice to you, the SM, that the Scout is ready to be tested. You or someone you have designated needs to meet with the Scout and test them on the requirement the. Approve it is SB. This is no different than the Scout putting a check mark in the left hand column of the handbook rank table to indicate the Scout is ready to be tested.

@RuthVila are you leader in One unit or More? If more is the right unit selected in the Top Right Drop Down

Nope just the one unit.

I would love to approve stuff but right now am only seeing some cub stuff to approve and I am with a troop not a pack.

Have you verified that there are things requiring approval in Scoutbook for any individuals, @RuthVila ?

That is, by going to an individual scout’s Advancement page, are there any advancement items there to be approved?
