Parent unable to log in (invalid token)

TLDR; In scoutbook, link from scout to mom is good. In Scoutbook Plus link from scout to mom is bad

One of the parents in my troop cannot log into scoutbook. She said she is getting an “invalid token” error.

When I log into scoutbook, I can see her linked to both her sons (SB User ID:
11122977 BSA Member ID:136787876) and (SB User ID: 10044963 BSA Member ID: 136286522). Both have a good link to their mom within scoutbook. When I click on her from one of her scout’s profiles, I can see her profile on scoutbook.
(Scoutbook).

From her account in scoutbook, I can click on “Edit Profile” to get me to Scoutbook Plus, and I can see her account and her BSA ID is 136286521.

(Internet Advancement which forwards to Internet Advancement).

Now when I look at her sons in Scoutbook Plus and look at her son’s account which has a link to her account, I get an error and an empty profile.
Internet Advancement.

I get a pop-up error that says “Error: Person not found for given persion GUID - personGuid: D185F6A9-CDF3-40AD-A97B-634F3F4013D7”

What can we do to fix her login issues?

thanks,
Dawn

This is a known issue that’s been reported several times here, and passed along to the developers. It’s not clear when it will be fixed.

This is new (to me, anyway), so I’m not sure if this is a symptom or if it’s a separate issue.

I’m used to an invalid token being an expired login/authentication issue, but that may be specific to the system I’m familiar with.

Have you watched the parent login? There might be a clue in that.

All of that said, it usually works better if the involved individual posts here so they can answer specific questions (assuming that they don’t experience the same issue trying to log in here).

I just got a similar issue, but this is something that’s been going on for years.

We have a family with three scouts, a father who is an adult leader, and a mother with a parent account.

The parent account was only connected to one of three youth on her end, but on scoutbook she seemed to be connected to them all. We kind of gave up on her being able to use scoutbook as no one could seem to resolve this. Last year tried to give the oldest scout access to his Scoutbook profile, via his father’s leader account but the button to allow him access was missing.

Now the mother wants to take YTP and sign up as a committee member, but whenever she tries to log in the youth is getting emails saying someone is trying to access his account. Remember, we were never able to set up the youth account. The youth got confused and changed the password and now he is logging to his mother’s account using her apple ID.

It’s all very bizarre. Now when I click on her profile it gives me an error and the name is Undefined Undefined. Just last night I was able to add her to community service hours.

Any help would be wonderful.

@GloriaFriend,

For the SUAC volunteers to look into it, they will need the BSA ID numbers for the folks involved (no names, please). That may help them sort out what, if anything, is wrong with the accounts.

It sounds like the mother set up a my.scouting account with the youth’s information instead of hers (youth getting emails about attempted connections + logging into mother’s account with mother’s a AppleID), but that’s mostly a guess at this point. SUAC can tell more with the ID numbers.

@GloriaFriend If you could post the BSA member ID numbers of the Scouts, we can take a look.

(No names, please)

@DawnHowe This parent has Google sign in turned on, so when she logs in, she needs to click on the “Sign in with Google” button, and use her Google name and Google password.

Ask her to try logging in to her account at my.Scouting, first.
Then use the same credentials to log in to Scoutbook at:

The mother’s scoutbook account number is 134294103. her account was begun when all three kids were in cubscouts. Two have since moved to Scouts BSA. The youth’s scout account is 134294102.

@GloriaFriend The parent’s account should be fixed. She has sign in with Apple turned on, so she needs to click on the “Sign in with Apple” button, and use her Apple name and Apple password.

Her oldest Scout’s username (login) is her e-mail address. He last logged in about 4 years ago.

The younger (middle) Scout’s username (login) appears to be the father’s e-mail address. He last logged in about 4 years ago.

Oh yes, that’s right - we also have had issues with the middle child’s name displaying on the father’s account instead of the father’s name. Seems to have resolved itself. It’s been one thing after another with this family.

How do we change the emails of the two youth to their personal emails rather than their parents?

@GloriaFriend The Scouts are using their own e-mails.

The usernames (logins) are their parent’s e-mail addresses.

@GloriaFriend Correction: The middle Scout is using the dad’s e-mail address.

The best way to change it is to log in at my.Scouting and change the e-mail address there.

If the parents want to change the Scouts’ usernames, they will have to contact the local council, and the local council will need to submit a help ticket to National on their behalf. They will need to specify what they want the new usernames to be.

Thanks for your help. I’m still seeing error messages on the mother’s profile, but I will give it 24 hours for the system to update.

@JenniferOlinger - I talked to the parent. Unfortunately, she no longer has that Google account. So she is stuck because she is unable to reset her account to use either a login/password or an apple ID (which she does have). Can you reset her login and send instructions to her (yahoo) account listed in her account to set up access again?

Thanks,
Dawn Howe

@DawnHowe It looks like Google sign in is turned on. Her Google name is her yahoo e-mail address. It looks like she was able to log in earlier this month.

If she is not able to log in, she will need to contact the local council and ask them to submit a help ticket to National on her behalf. They will need to request that the Google sign in be turned off, and she will need to specify what she would like her new username (login) to be.
