Parent Unable to RSVP for Scout

Parent is properly connected to their Scout (shows in both Legacy and SB+), but only sees RSVP for themselves–not their Scout. They previously had the ability to RSVP for their Scout, but can’t even see their Scout’s RSVP status for events they previously RSVP’d them for.

Scout’s MID: 141522129
Parent’s MID: 142071730

@RyanTashma

Has the parent selected their parent role in the upper right corner of SB+?

Yes, first thing I verified. Forgot to mention in the original post: I also had them do a hard refresh.

@RyanTashma other dumb question - the Scout is an invitee on the event? What is the date of the event?

@DonovanMcNeil Yes, Scout is an invitee on both events I checked.

Both events I checked with the parent were future events. The first was 7/12. The second was 7/26-8/1. (That second event is one parent previously RSVP’d the Scout for, but now can’t see the RSVP.)

Other color commentary: we were previously a B & G troops and are now an F troop. The Scout was in the B, now F, troop. The first event was created on the F troop calendar post merger; the second event existed on the B & G troop calendars.

FWIW, several Scouts & leaders have reported unexpected calendar behavior lately. Looking in event comments, I see several other parents reporting the same issue and just realized that I have the same problem from my Parent role, too. Not sure if this is related, but a Committee Member complained to me last night that they can’t see any RSVPs on calendar events where they previously could (verified he was using his Leader role). My Scout reported the same issue–her complaint is that many Scouts want to know who’s going on an event before RSVPing and that they like to have the SB RSVP list to assist in planning. (I wasn’t sure if this was a bug or a new feature.)

There’s a lot to unpack here.

When the permissions structure was changed from relying on “fake” positions in classic SB to registered positions (and functional roles assigned in my.scouting or SB+), the default permissions for a lot of registered positions were set to be pretty limited. Committee members and ASMs don’t, by default, have access to much of anything. The unit Key 3 have to assign specific permissions on a person-by-person basis.

I suspect that this is similarly are result of the changes to the permissions structure, but I don’t know if there’s a setting that would permit scouts to see (but not edit) calendar RSVPs. I think I saw a request for this feature some time back, but don’t recall what the outcome of that was.

There are a number of issues that seem to have devolved from the merging of units, particularly where “joint” events (B&G units) were both invited to the same event (vs having separate events on each calendar). If I recall the discussion in past forum posts correctly, there seem to be various idiosyncrasies related to exactly how the councils handled the unit mergers that has impacted some of those issues. I think there was some sort of fix in the backlog for some of that, but I don’t recall if it was released or still in the works.

Scouts with the Calendar Editor permissions in SB+ might have access to view RSVPs, but I don’t have a scout in the troop anymore I can ask to test this out for me.

I’m experiencing the same issue. The “Invitees/Attendees” list used to be populated with troop members’ names. Now it’s blank, both for future events and for past events I’d RSVPed to. I can RSVP for myself, but not for my scout. Thank you, to those looking into this.

@MichaelMecherikoff

This is a known issue.

Watch Scoutbook - Scoutbook Plus Change Log - Scouting Forums for an announcement of a fix.

July 8, 2026 Scoutbook Plus Updates indicates this is resolved for parents. Scouts are still unable to see the invitee list / RSVP status. Is that also a “known issue” or a feature? Thanks!

@RyanTashma do you have a sample MEmber # of a scout (no name) and the name/date of an event as an example?

MID 14444860

7/12, “Lake Merwin Day” is one example, but I can’t find a single calendar event with RSVP (past or future) where they can see the invitee list or RSVP status for others.

Our troop has multiple people with this problem. I’m one of them. A year ago I could log in, ensure in the upper right I was using the correct profile (I have 5) that shows the correct troop and “parent of…” displayed. When I click on a troop calendar event, there is only a big RSVP button to rsvp myself. The section showing who is signed up is blank or shows zeros. I have reset filters, hasn’t helped. In the past I was able to see the entire troop roster and their RSVP status. Now I can’t even see my own scouts. I was listed as a “reserve scouter” last year, this year I have a “committee member” profile with the troop in addition to my parent/guardian profile for each scout. None of my 5 profiles in 2 councils let me see the troop roster RSVP status, see my own scout’s RSVP status, or RSVP for my scouts. Again, we have this same problem with multiple families in our troop. I see conflicting updates in the forum. It’s a known problem, but also some reports that it’s been fixed yet it clearly has not been fixed for everyone. Our troop admins and council have attempted to fix it and the permissions appear to be set correctly, yet we still have people who can’t RSVP for their scouts, even ones like me who used to be able to do this but can’t now.

My scout’s ID 137090257 (one of my 3 scouts)

LOL and just like that it’s fixed I think. That took maybe 10 minutes haha.

I love good tech support

We are not seeing this fixed yet and many parents in our troop having the issue.

Does one need to clear cache or use a special browser to see this fix in effect?

@DeeKivett - a bit more information is needed here:

  1. are they using the scouting app
  2. are they using the website on mobile device
  3. if on pc what browser
Perhaps a hard refresh of the browser will present the fix. They could try incognito or clearing cache and cookies

Good tips on the incognito. All were using the mobile app on phones. I instructed (at our recent meeting last week) for them to go home and try on desktops. I will give these additional tips and have everyone try again. Thanks for the help.

@DeeKivett - I would recommend NOT using the scouting app the red icon as it is not always in sync with the website. They can use advancements.scouting.org on their phones.

@DonovanMcNeil Any insight into this? The youth RSVP visibility problem seems to persist after the parent RSVP issue was resolved. Thanks!

@RyanTashma there is a new story to apply the changes to youth accounts - watch the change log

Awesome! Thank you for the help!
