We are attempting to use the new “payments log” feature in Scoutbook Plus. After having used the Payments Log feature in Scoutbook for many years. We received a cash payment from a parent. We entered the payment by hitting record a transaction and then entered the field where it says “Applied To” and put in the event. However on both the user side and the pack admin side the event appears unpaid as a line item, even though the over all balance for the scout decreased. Hitting “pay” on the line item that still appears unpaid generates a Stripe payment in the full amount even though we already recorded the cash payment and marked it as “applied to” the event.
To duplicate this I created a fake event for my daughter. Generated a fake cash payment applied to the fake event. Saw exactly the same behavior.
@MichaelMooney - the key to the payment logs is the running balance. It is really like a check register.. money in and money out. Here is how I handle it.. The event is not as important as category for my use. This is how our summer camp was entered:
I do not recall entries being marked as paid in the old logs.
Old log entries are in the new version and nothing is noted as paid
The help for the old log did not show something as paid in the member log
Thanks. I’m the old payment log this wasn’t an issue. Our parents paid via PayPal in Scoutbook whatever it said they owed. We were looking to use stripe since PayPal is no longer an option, as it easily makes sure the processing fees were the families responsibility.
But now there’s no easy way for us to do online payments clearly for our parents. We were looking to issue a credit for paid items and for items paid with fundraising so parents knew which items to pay with stripe.
This looks like another very poor implemented change moving from Scoutbook to Scoutbook Plus. At the national conference they talked about eliminating pain points for leaders and parents. This is a perfect example of Scouting creating pain points.
@MichaelMooney - I have only used the logs for summer camp and membership renewal so those were all I ever entered. You could only enter a transaction for what they actually owe. I dont recall the old pay log being any different. The only exception being those with PayPal had a different pay option. With stripe it is pay on any item due to unit which would be different than the balance on the account
@MichaelMooney - watch the change log if and update is made
