Problems with Scoutbook after updating email address on my.scouting.org

I recently created a new gmail account for all of my scouting communications and I updated my profile on my.scouting.org to change my email address. This change was reflected on my Scoutbook Plus profile, but this morning, I learned that this change was not also reflected in the old Scoutbook Legacy.

I created a couple of new calendar events for den meetings on the Scoutbook Plus calendar. I sent RSVP requests to “All Invitees” and set event reminders to be sent out as well. Unfortunately, I did not receive the RSVP request at my new email address. I checked my old email account, and sure enough, the RSVP request emails had been sent to my old address even though my.scouting.org and Scoutbook plus both showed my new email address in my profiles.

Apparently the messaging system in Scoutbook Plus is actually using information from Scoutbook Legacy. I called my council and spoke with the council registrar and after investigating, she was able to confirm that one of the systems was still showing my old email address. She made the change for me and I tested it by creating a new calendar event in Scoutbook Plus, this time I only added myself to the invitees list and it worked! I received the RSVP request at my new email address!

This is a bug that needs to be fixed. Scouters should not need to contact the council registrar in order to update an email address.

1) Hardware: Desktop
2) Operating system: Windows 11
3) Browser: I tried using both Chrome and Firefox
4) Browser cache has been cleared or you are using a private browsing mode (aka Incognito Window in Chrome): Yes
5) Member ID & Council of person affected: Member ID141952743 California Inland Empire Council

MEssaging is split in how it sends still - but I definitely will point this out to DEVs again

Well you SB User and My Scouting have the same Email. So were the reminders made in the past? when the email was different?

@TimothyStevenson1

The developers would like you to go into SB+ and update your e-mail address there (make it wrong then change it back so it is correct). They have a theory they need this to validate.

Thanks for your help in resolving this issue! I understand that Scoutbook Plus is somehow using Scoutbook Legacy for the Messaging, that was apparent when I discovered what was happening.

Before I changed my email address on my.scouting.org, I was able to receive messages just fine. What’s weird about this is that when I updated my email address on my profile on my.scouting.org, I could see the change in Scoutbook Plus. I could find anywhere in Scoutbook Legacy that showed me what email address was associated with my profile, I only found a link to my rofile on my.scouting.org.

My council’s registrar was able to make the change for me (I’m not sure where) because she was still seeing the old email address. Once she made the change, everything worked as it should.

Scoutbook Plus Users aren’t able to make changes to their email address directly in their Scoutbook Plus profiles. These fields are greyed out.

first name, last name, birthday, gender, email address, phone number, phone type, carrier, and the additional information are all greyed out and there’s a message: “Please contact your local council for any changes that are not editable” .

My Scoutbook Plus profile showed the updated (new) email address as soon as I updated my profile on my.scouting.org. The issue was with Scoutbook Legacy and what the council registrar changed for me this morning. Whatever system she updated my email address in fixed the issue.

@TimothyStevenson1

Something is not right if you see e-mail address grayed out. You are supposed to be able to change your e-mail address in your Scoutbook Plus profile. I just looked at my profile and I can change my e-mail address, phone, address, etc. The only fields that should be grayed out are FN, MN, LN, gender and birth date.

I wonder if you have special privileges, being on the Scoutbook User Advisory Council?

I am able to change my address, phone number, and email address in my profile on my.scouting.org, just not directly in my profile on Scoutbook Plus. Its seems that Scoutbook Plus is being fed this information from my profile on my.scouting.org.

I think that the problem is that while Scoutbook Plus is receiving the updated info from my.scouting.org, Scoutbook Legacy is not. To update Scoutbook Legacy, I had to contact my council’s registrar.

@TimothyStevenson1 - you really want to start moving away from legacy scoutbook.
To change your info in plus it would be the Profile line in the left menu.

@TimothyStevenson1

SB+ does not know who SUAC members are. We have no special privileges.

@TimothyStevenson1 this has been pretty much sorted out - simple answer is the sync of data between my.scouting and SB did not fully run.

Thanks, but to be clear, I’m not using Scoutbook Legacy. Scoutbook Plus is using Scoutbook Legacy for the Messaging. I only went to Scoutbook Legacy trying to troubleshoot the problem that I was having with Scoutbook Plus.

Thanks again for your help with this!

For the future, is there something we need to do as users? or is this something that is automated? Could this happen again to me or other users if I/they update my/their profiles, or has this been fixed permanently?

When did these reminders go out? Date?

I created the calendar events this morning (5/08/26) and the RSVP request was sent to my old email address at approximately 7:57 AM PST (that’s the timestamp that I see in my inbox)

After my council’s registrar made a change on her end, I created a new calendar event to test the change she had made. I received an RSVP request for that event at my new email address at 9:58 AM PST.

My issue has been fixed. I came to the forum to see if there was/is a bigger problem that is affecting others as well.

@TimothyStevenson1 I will send you a direct message > look at top right Avatar to find it > it will be a green envelope > it will be a private message channel with select members of the Scoutbook User Advisory Council (SUAC)

I saw the green envelope, but when I tried to click it, I was take to a list of notifications. I can’t find the private message channel. Can you send it again?

@TimothyStevenson1 try again
