Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
I have completed the required training for my positions in my unit (Member ID # 9128397). However, I am unable to complete the required training listed below. Although my.Scouting indicates that I can “Take the course”, but I cannot click on the training link. How can I complete these courses?
Troop Committee Challenge-Classroom WS10
Pack Committee Member Pos Spec Tng Classroom C60
Sea Scout Adult Ldr Basic Training - Classroom P44
@EstherVillarino_Tur Those are in person courses. In most cases, you can do the online training OR the in person courses (classroom). However, there are some exceptions, such as IOLS, which must be done in person.
It’s actually a tech question - how to understand the requirements display.
The problem - the requirements display shows both in-person classroom training and SCO_xxx modules as required training. It doesn’t include the ‘do the class or do the modules’ instruction.
The solution -
Short term - explain the display to each person who asks.
Long term - yes, talk to council to ask for an edit to make the display better. It needs to be clear to folks that there is an either / or, not both.
…but unfortunately, the tech teams who support both my.scouting and the training system only take feedback/tickets from councils, not the SUAC team.
While I recognize that this is somewhat of an edge case, “how to interpret the display” overlaps with the policy question “why is it showing this way”. Putting together an explanation of that is an exercise for national, which will only respond to requests from councils…even if the response is “no”.
I believe it is actually an IT issue. Before last week there were 3 columns-Mandatory Training, Classroom Training and Online Training. I have a volunteer, 14539724, He has completed Y01 for his position, Classroom Training lists 2 courses(I am not familiar w/ these #’s) and all of his Online Course are completed. The reason he is listed as Not Trained, under Mandatory Training has D70 listed. D70 is a Classroom Training. In looking at my 40 pages of Not Trained volunteers, I saw this for a few times. I am a current District Chair.
As Ed noted for the original poster, these types of issues with training need to be reported to the local council professional staff, since the teams supporting the training and my.scouting platforms do not take bug reports/feature requests from the SUAC volunteers on these boards. They only accept MemberCare tickets and similar support requests from the council professional staff.
I found this thread trying to report the same issue. While I understand the maintainers of my.scouting.org can only be contacted directly by Council Professional Staff I think this is a meta-issue of usability. There should be a mechanism to directly report bugs, usability issues and confusion. Picking up the phone and involving the Council Professional Staff is not a good use of their or the bug reporter’s time and intermediating these requests likely adds to the confusion.
I had the same confused C60 discussion over the phone and am still not sure what is required of me as an officer of my Den to get my Den re-chartered.
@EricLee10 - this is how Scouting America wants this handled. Now there is no den recharter nor is there a unit recharter. It is unit renewal and individual membership renewal.
As Stephen noted, this is the pathway that was directed by Scouting America national. Nobody here has the ability or contacts to advocate for a change to that.
The council professional staff, such as the Scout Exec, have contacts with national and service territory staff whom they can lobby for changes to the extent that they see it as (or can be convinced that it is) a problem to have issues with my.scouting, training, etc reported via the council professionals. However, I suspect it would need to be a pretty convincing case, since I suspect that there would need to be significant hiring at national in order to provide more direct-to-user support.
Click on “My Required Training” tab on the left side.
If you have completed the training for your currently registered position(s), then you should se a “Trained” patch next to the position name. This page will tell you all of the courses that you need in order to be considered position "trained ".
