Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
@WarrenWilczewski I suggest asking them to make you or someone else with tech proficiency a key 3 delegate so they can handle much of that instead of the SM.
I agree that the transition is painful for some in your situation. In the long run, I think most units will be happier with the increased granularity and not having to update connections every time someone new joins.
I cannot edit any of the events as a Den Leader to mark attendance. Also anytime I try to setup a service project and record the attendance and hours it freezes the entire app. Do I have to do this on the website? If so that would be more difficult for taking attendance at the time of an event or meeting.
@BryceLeonardo- has the unit key 3 reviewed your permission in permission manager and second what app are you referring to as the only app that exists is the scouting app which is for parents and scouts not leaders
Unfortunately the Guide to Advancement is mute on the responsibilities of the Advancement Chair vis-a-vis recording events. The only text I can find that pertains to this situation is:
All camps, events, or other merit badge opportunities, and all advancement recording systems are expected to promptly document merit badge partials and completions in a format that is easy for Scouts, adult volunteers, and merit badge counselors to use and understand.
No direct mention of who should be doing this recording, but since the primary reason for recording events is to ensure Scouts are recognized for their effort, I would assume (yes, there is that word) that the Advancement Chair be given the authority to do this work by default.
Internet Advancement / Scoutbook Plus can be installed as an app. It has basic functionality for parents and Scouts, and enhanced functionality for Adult Leaders in a few specific positions. See:
Hi Jacob. So the SM added the calendar editing function to my position, and I am still not able to edit the calendar. I have a print icon in the top right, but not the + that should allow me to add an event. Is there someone who can dial in my BSA ID and see why it’s not working for me? I’m really at a loss here.
I’m looking at our Troop’s calendar, and am trying to create an event for the Troop. There is currently no event. I created two Activities, bit cannot add attendees because I need an event to go with the Acivity, and cannot create the event.
What are your registered positions, @NancyWhitacre ? Those are what determine your abilities in SB+, now. How do those positions compare to the default abilities in the abilities matrix PDF linked at the top of the pages? If the task you’re trying to accomplish doesn’t appear as a default ability, then your Key 3 or Key 3 Delegates need to assign those supplemental abilities to you in SB+.
I was told by my council to clear my cache and that did work. I have a “wigit” on my computer that seemed to be out of sync.
The role I have is Committee Chair.
Thank you for the response. As no one else in my Pack enters anything in Scoutbook and it is my job to track everything in it.
Generally, SB+ tends to cache a lot of data locally, and as a result, I find myself needing to clear the cache in order to get new things to work correctly. It’s become my go-to first step whenever something in SB+ doesn’t seem to be working.
The linked PDF document and video in the blue banner at the top of the forums go into more detail on how to add permissions for other scouters in your unit, if you wanted to get some more hands on the tasks. Pay close attention to the superscripts, as many of them look quite similar, and it took me a bit in the beginning to sort out what was a default and what permissions I had to add for folks (as a Key 3 Delegate) for them to have the access our committee had established using the old Scoutbook connections system.
