Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
I’m Advancement Chair for my unit and I’ve been working with the parent to try to invite her sons to set up log-in credentials and then be able to receive unit calendar updates and messages. Unfortunately, the red bar that usually exists in the “Edit Extended Information” is not showing up on either of her son’s records. She is logged in as herself and then navigates to each son and has looked in both places to be able to invite them. I sat with her and directly observed the issue. With the updates to Scoutbook Plus, did the steps change in how parents/youth do this?

These instructions in the link you provided appear to be for people who are not already connected to a unit in Scoutbook. The people in question are already set up with accounts in Scoutbook and they are linked to their sons in our unit, but the youth are not yet set up to receive emails. In the past, after the parents and youth were in SB for the unit, the parent had to give access for the Scout to receive emails from Scoutbook by inviting them to set up email/login credentials. This used to take place by clicking a red bar at the bottom of the “Edit Profile” (and later “Edit Extended Information”) page in the youth’s record from parent sign-in that said “ Invite (Name) to Connect".
Here is a screenshot of what it used to look like in “Edit Profile” before a parent would invite their youth to connect.
The parents should help their Scout create an account at my.Scouting.org. With single sign on (SSO), the same username (login) and password is used to log in at my.Scouting, Scoutbook (legacy), and Scoutbook Plus.
