I am the advancement committee member and new to Scout book. As I enter data into scout book, do I check the box “leader approved/recorded”?
You do if you are saying the scout deserves credit for the requirement.
That’s generally a policy issue that can differ from unit to unit. For example, in our unit the SM/ASM marks things as Leader Approved based on review and approval by authorized youth or adult leaders who directly reviewed the scout’s work, except merit badges. The Advancement Chair marks merit badges Leader Approved upon completion based on receipt of the counselor-signed blue card, or a digital equivalent.
@jacobfetzer is correct that doing so “pushes” the advancement to the database, indicating that the requirements have been satisfied.
